MS XP Home SP3 Troubles

Post by dawman »

Scope is fine, Kontakt is fine, but I am trying to re install Cubase 4.0 and Tascam GVI.
Windows aks for the SP2 version to run the software. I recently had SP3 installed and since have lost these 2 apps. No biggie the show goes on.
But I need to make new drumn tracks and I use Cubase and GVI for that.
I went to MS download and retrieved the SP2 version these apps are asking for and when I try to install it, Windows alerts me that I have SP3 and do not need to install SP2 and it bounces me out.
Anyone have any ideas on how to overwrite SP3 w/ SP2, or do I have to do a re install..?
I can't even try a re install until next week as I am taking no chances until I have downtime.

Thanks.

control panel
add remove programs
check the box of "show updates"
then you should see the SP3 you can uninstall...
roll back to SP2

I am at the DAW right now can you hang....?
Yeah, it looked promising but the HDD crashed before a gig in October.
Service Center swapped the drive and did an SP3 fresh install, so I can roll back to October 4 and nothing before that.

To Hell with Cubase and GVI.
I am so burned out on these 2 Dongle hogs anyways.
Reaper, Scope and Kontakt 3.0 need no dongle, never crash, don't snivel about which version of a crappy O.S. it has to have.......finito, Kaputt.
I love GVI and transferred the Miraslav Strings to Kontakt and only lost the round full low end of Gigastudio.
Also recently found an excellent Formant Pitch Shifter called ReaPitch from the Elastique 2 upgrade and I actually don't have a Scope plug that is as transparent. So it's a win win for me.

Happy New Year.

Cubase forums might have info related to that specific one, as I can't see Cubase4 insisting on Sp2 and not Sp3 without it being more widely reported.

Or perhaps in asking for Sp2 it's actually wanting something else? A version of .Net or an .msi installer update?

Try Cubase 5 on Windows 7. It works great!

Except he doesn't have time to reinstall Xp let alone tackle upgrading both app & OS to a new version. Good to know though...

How true........but 7/64 is the next move.
I have Reaper running Bidule as a VST via ReWire so I am a happy camper.
Cubase will be missed as it was great for ritardandos and MIDI drum track creation. But it's MIDI playback resolution was always having drop outs with long throw fader moves, etc.
Reapers 968 ppq is great for having already recorded automated MIDI data streams combined with live realtime MIDI data streams. I guess because it isn't overbloated yet..?
I don't know why and don't care, Reaper just works, and now with Kontakt doing Gigastudio conversions effortlessly it's time to make the move.
Below the conversion was done like a batch file....sweet and easy.
The sound has lost some of it's round low end Giga was famous for, but nothing a good DAS EQ can't fix.

i realise that this particular bird has flown, but i have Cubase 5 and SX3 running on XP SP3 fine - i can't imagine 4 wouldn't. As valis says, i doubt Cubase 4 can't cope with SP3 (why would the version before and after work?), so may be a Windoze peculiarity. Have to say i got C5 because Reaper was really doing my head in - i couldn't do simple things quickly so caved in and got C5, as much as i hate Steny i think C5 is the best effort yet (SX was awful and turned me to other products for years).

Reaper is too basic. I never had any midi problems in Cubase but I've heard of it. Might be a hardware issue.
