I like the physics of it. I'm waiting for software developers to adopt something like this so you don't have to buy the expensive hardware. On the other hand, it does look very cool.

As for software counterparts, you can do a lot of external midi controlling the same way with Flexor. Just assign MIDI CC to each val slider, and it will send/recieve MIDI CC from your sequencer.

On the screenshot below, the Multival Monitor sends the resulting "ball" as midi cc messages. The X and Y sliders, controlling the "controll ball" are also mapped for CC so whatever i do with the mouse is recorded as an envelope (this is not allways recommended though).

I just threw this together to give an idea, a lot of controll could be added/removed to fit your likings. Assigning it to control Live works just the same as with Lemur. Just hook up the modulars midi out to sequencer midi in.
Or just hook it up to your scope synth experimentation.

Imo, its about tactile response and visual feedback. Its not possible to get 2 or 3 things done like restarting loops or programming steps while recording with a mouse.I would like to buy a lemur or dexter but i need to save up a bit more to do it.

Yup, as a hardware controller i bet its excellent :) I just wantet to highlight part the scope platform that, atleast for my part, have been extremely neglected :) And while saving up for the Lemur, you can do worse than experiment with flexor as a controller/CC generator, there's heaps of possibilities!

Yeh.Its a good hint.I am fooling around with some max-msp patches for the monome and flexor. For daw control i just use osc and as example for ableton 7up live and a few other ones in a java patch that is called pages and it works very well for now.

I just wish someone would actually map the crazy thing to actually play music rather than all the glitch stuff.

Seems so underutilized.

...or maybe I don't get it (having co-developed controllers myself that is)... :P

He shouldn't have said in the beginning that he was going to make it "really exciting"

The engineer in me realizes how relatively sophisticated such contraptions are, but I still prefer tactile surfaces that I can manipulate in the dark/on stage, etc.

Otherwise I'd just take it to the other extreme, and make everything controllable in mid-air (I'll post videos later).

Also, the demos I saw at NAMM seemed to have a LOT of latency in the reaction off the surface.
