My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
After close to 10 years of service, one of my monitors finally gave out. Out with the old and in with the new! Here I come Genelecs! I've used Genelecs 8000 series for mixing before and I know it works for me, so I'm glad the search portion is already done. Unless anyone has suggestions that they know would kill Genelecs without doubt.
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
i can think of several, but really at some point it's a matter of subjective taste. the Genelecs are plenty, plenty good. if you've used them and like them, get them, you can't lose...
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
You should check out a few pairs in a shop or even at home.I use adams (p22a) and i am very happy.A mate is using genelec 1031/adam s3a and another mate is using the k-h q300.I like all of them but mostly the adams due to the ribbons. The adam a7 are also very nice but too smallish for me.
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
yes, the Adams are plenty smooth.
i really like my Blue Sky system one pair....

I think you meant to post to the other thread Valis.
I have Events. I didn't know monitors could give out.

brain> It's the amp portion that gave out. I guess passive monitors won't break in that way.
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
it's probably pretty fixable....

Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
I was wondering about that too... but isn't the 2020 bas out of production? bleh, I don't know any trust worthy guys to bring my speakers to anyway.. Riding the subway carrying a 20 20 bas? Forgettaboudit.
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
you can call Event and get an RA. they can fix 'em. it's a matter for UPS.
of course, if you want new speaks.....

What about the new Event Opals? seem to be causing quite a stir at the moment.
Using PMC myself.

Personally I would do both, fix that one at some point down the line & get new ones. Get the new ones first as incentive to get utterly familiar with them and then someday fix the old one (or find a single speaker used) and compare what you used to hear to what you do now.
Someday I intend to update from my tubby hr824 mk1's (which thankfully were pre-chinese original design) but what I want more at the moment actually is a $500 pair to a/b with. I've got a set of 3-way akai things from the 80's here and a small 'multimedia' roland set as alternates for comparison, but I would like something between as I feel a gap there.

good advice.
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
that happened to one of my Roland DS30s once...kensuguro wrote:brain> It's the amp portion that gave out. I guess passive monitors won't break in that way.
I wasn't much concerned, assuming the problem could easily be tracked by reference measure on the working box.
Actually it really did, but as usual it was the very last part in the very last board, a tiny rectifier diode

(my choice had been top to bottom procedure - bottom to top would have revealed it earlier)
cheers, Tom
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
My Events fell down and broke the plastic part which holds the tweeter in place so I wedged some aluminum foil in there to hold it
.
I don't think my Scope cards will die. They will just will not be supported and thus be obsolete as is the problem now with my Windows 7 64 bit OS. There won't even be any PCI slots soon.
Kensuguro, did you leave your Monitors turned on?
I hate the way the volume is on the back on mine.

Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
I think it's a bad power tap. I just used a regular one from staples, not one of those fancy studio ones that regulate electricity to the point that it makes your stuff sound better. The switch on the speaker was acting strange. When I turn off the speaker, my m-audio box (also plugged in the same power strip) would reset itself.. so, there must have been some grounding issues or some crazy currents going on.
I like the idea of hanging on to these and getting fixed later. At least they'd serve as an extra pair for comparison.

braincell,
Your PCI cards will definitely die. Capacitors have a finite lifetime before they begin to seep out their contents, as an example. The PCI slots will be available for a long time to come, just as you can still buy boards with old ISA slots. They won't be cheap, but they'll be available.
Your cards will still die (again the capacitors will likely go first, but maybe a diode or other component), even if they are made obsolete by new OSs and are mothballed in the back of your closet. It's just a matter of time. But probably a looong time...

having the same speakers that is not a good thing to hear! however if mine die i will attempt to repair them first, they are just chipamps!
Re: My Event 20 20 bas finally gave out
They don't die if your computer is used only for music. I haven't experienced any electronic equipment dying ever that I can remember. I have a DrumKat which is 30 years old and works perfectly. I used it tonight.
