InterMetro Groovin' Bleecker

Post by kensuguro »

Bleecker's a funky little street, mainly speaking of the NY west village area. I've been holding back on the funky stuff for a while, so it's nice to see how the jazz stuff is coming into play with the chord choice and voicings.

All instruments are the free stuff that comes with Live. Simple, but not bad. The tune seems to hold together mainly by the syncopation and arrangement. Which is a great way to write I found out. Because I usually get so caught up trying to nail a sound while I write, so it's like 50% mixing while 50% writing... this time I just stuck in place holders that only served the correct purpose (like any lead for a lead part) and then we back and swapped it out, or tweaked the parameters. Gets the tune going much quicker.

I've never been a fan of this approach, since I think that if you're not playing the "end result" sound, it makes you play/write different lines, but hey, maybe it's not so bad to "write what you want to write", and then edit the sound to go with it. A case by case thing I guess.
