Hey all , been a while since I have been on here but in need of some info.
I have been really loving what my scope project can do but I am wondering if I am using too much dsp power when I don't have to.I always set up an adat in (I have an Ultra 16) and send in the 8 tracks in mono to the respective 8 tracks.I use the 2448 as my mixer and I set up direct outs which always gives me stereo outs , so my first question is as follows.
Is it standard for the 2448 to set up stereo outs when you select direct outputs? If so is using just the left channel as an out the same as sending mono??
SO ... then I set up an asio dest.I run sonar producer 8 and when I go to my inputs it always has everything set up as
scope asio 1 Left
scope asio 1 right
scope asio 1 stereo
and it jumps in odd numbers so it goes ,
scope asio 1 , 3 , 5 , 7 so on on
but in my scope asio dest I set the channels to 4 and that would result in sonar reading it as 1 left , right , stereo and 3 left, right , stereo.Is this normal??
WHat I generally do is send my outputs to the left and right asios and set them up as mono tracks in sonar
FOR EXAMPLE
Snare top -------->Output 1 L ---------------asio dest 1 L---------sonar asio scope 1 L
Snare bottom ---->Output 2 L ---------------asio dest 1 R ---------sonar asio scope 1 R
I then make sure each of the tracks in Sonar is set to mono, is this considered an ok to do that???
On another note , what is the main use of the phase comp on the 2448 , I tend to find better results using it when I am recording drums.
Anyways , you guys are amazing at this kind of stuff , up here in Canada it is hard to find good support for creamware.God forbid I almost switched to the darkside but then I smartened up!!
Thanks!!

hello,
it sounds like you have it more or less figured.
Sonar is in bed with M$ and Steinberg(Cakewalk's competitor) made ASIO, so Cakewalk(Sonar) wants you to use WDM and they've screwed up the numbering of channels to discourage you. actually, the numbering sorta makes sense, 1L=1L 1R=1R=2, 2L=3L=3, 2R=3R=4, 3L=5L=5, 3R=5R=6 etc....
don't worry, ASIO is the best choice regardless of the stupid numbering. stereo inputs= two mono inputs, so as long as the tracks are set up with the proper inputs, it'll all work(as i'm sure you've seen).
yes, the stm2448 always shows stereo direct outs, so it's correct to use the left outs for mono channels.
phase comp makes sure that every input on the stm2448 mixer is in phase with every other input, so you're using it properly.
i can speak to you by phone if there are specific questions that can't be addressed more simply here, if you pm me.
