Pulsar 2 + Luna 2 + Luna 2 - 1 or 2 STDM ?

Post by dante »

I recently got my Pulsar + Luna + Luna configuration working, with 1 STDM cable connecting the 3 boards. However, occasionally with a complex project I sometimes get a message regarding limits of the connection.

I was wondering whether it would be any improvement to obtain an extra STDM connector. Hence connecting each Luna to the Pulsar seperately. The Lunas only have 1 STDM header each, and the Pulsar has 2.

Can anyone kindly explain the difference in using 1 or 2 connectors in a Pulsar + Luna + Luna scenario ? I would be greatful thank you.

you can certainly try it that way, but that's not how it was designed to work. try it. :)

i would bet that you have the best possible arrangement for the cards you have, there are just limitations, like with ANYthing. big devices that have to span across 3 cards because of dsp allotments that were already assigned to other devices before the problem device was loaded will never work without the "global optimization"(timing errors), a reason to use one big card instead of 3 little ones(less errors). i'd be happy to be proven wrong in your case, however. :)

Ok thanks garyb and stardust ... you've saved me the trouble of trying to track down another STDM cable and pulling the rack apart... I'll just work around the limitation (in this case by double tracking my guitar leads mono thru a single Dynatube rather than having 2 loaded for stereo.....)... heh.

I agree 1 big card would have been better - but it was just thru sheer luck that I got the 3rd card at a Billy Hydes Bargain Basement sale for $200AUS...otherwise would've been off my radar...looking to future windfalls for XITE $$$$ system...
