question about xcite pci-e
i hear that xcite will release pci-e cards which sounds interesting. what u guys think it will cost and when will it be released?? im interested in the internal pci expresss card not the incredibly overpriced 2700 euro external xcite box. also im sure a 3dsp card is more than enough, considering itl be power of 30 dsps

Re: question about xcite pci-e
Hhmm, no. XITE is the box, not the company. No mention of PCI-e cards yet (if ever). i'd think Sonic|Core would more likely release a cut down box first.

Re: question about xcite pci-e
no pci-e card!!!
i dont understand y they shouldnt create such cards for more mainstream users who dont want to drop so much money on something liek the xcite box but still want the advantages of the dsp and pci-e bandwidth power. soniccore neeeeeds to make this a reality!

Re: question about xcite pci-e
I love using a 3 x card DAW because of the massive 48 MIDI channesl and the ability to use 6 hardware effects routed digitally..........
3 x 6 DSP cards w/ the ADP21369's would be great.....
Solaris has 6 of those FAT BASTARDS too.
Nice to think about though 'eh?

Re: question about xcite pci-e
ironman, you can get several scope boards on pci...
xite is a pci-e card, outside of the box because after all those years, we (users and makers of devices) understood we really need onboard preamps.
why do you want to be limited to your desktop, while it could be plugged to a laptop at the same time... a strictly pci-e card inside the computer is simply a huge mistake from all points of view.
30 dsp is for weaklings anyway
xite is close to a dream machine... it can be a synth workstation, a mix station, and both at once...
performers and composer need not less than this kind of power.
to get high quality plugins, we need renewed processing power... a cut down xite is a wish from many, a full xite is a dream for those who want to break free, at last....
please don't rant on something that is not even out and that has already required huge amounts of work... it is a personal request from me to you.. care about it so it cares about you too.
to get the small size, it is better to build the big one first.. it is generally easier to delete than to add.
for what it is, xite is apparently not cheap per se, may be "2700" is expensive in itself in comparison to something else (and what? burgers?), but if you compare with existing gear and what they can do, then it becomes close to a bargain...
I wsih xite comes true and that i get one... then the world can sunk, i could not care less...

Re: question about xcite pci-e
That I agree with. It's sold as a piece of art/culture more than music gear these days...
Re: question about xcite pci-e
yes i understand all the advantage of an external sound card but still theres a lot of us that dont record outside of our home studio setups and that dont need such a luxury. i am amazed that till now we are still using dinasoar technology of pci instead of upgrading to modern pci-xpress technology as UAD has done. And now with this new x10 dsp power such a system would be very very successful and spacef the R and D is already done for such a needed upgrade. creating a pci-e card would just be a much simplified version of the xcite and hense cheaper and more affordable for those of us without so much money the upcoming product is asking

Re: question about xcite pci-e
Here's how it works out.
Get 3 x cards and when you decide that yes Scope is the bomb, those cards can be sold or turned into a slave DAW w/ VSTi's or the new version of Gigastudio which isn't dead BTW. Just watch the news reports from Messe, there'll be an announcement. That news is as exciting as XITE-1 actually, you'll never beieve who's gonna pick it up...
I am going to sell my last few cards here as soon as I am done making a Karaoke box for my X.
I don't even know if I will use all of the power that the XITE-1 has seeings how I bought a Solaris with it. I was already running a synth DAW ( 1 x card ) and an entire live band in the other DAW. I guess I will use QWave, LBH VIII & MultiSynth multitimbrally for a total of 64 voices and then pack the channels with EQ's and Verbs, who knows.
There's no sense waiting for a small XITE-1 though, look how long it took to bring the 1U to the show? It will hopefully be released sometime this Spring.
I love chatting about the future but until then I beat my cards unmercifully everyday as they are the most satisfying investment I ever made.
They don't charge Alimony, don't want to go to college.............they only ask for a new synth or device every now and then which takes weeks to become good at using, but will make you smile and enjoy your music....that's why I walk around my house with wireless ear monitors.....I am deep into Scope, I even fall alseelp with these things on, and then wake up make coffee and do it again. I can even take a crap or cut my grass while listening to the VDAT's I made......
Best of all, I can't hear the cackling hens when I wear these, so Scope is my escape and my reward, and these are 10 year old cards.

Re: question about xcite pci-e
I think most people expect that if the Xite sells well enough SC will turn around and offer PCIe cards and/or other configurations to meet uses that the flagship Xite is overkill for or not suited to. It doesn't make sense though for a small company to focus on producing an entire line of products all at once though, so I wouldn't expect news about that before even the Xite has launched.ironman wrote:yes i understand all the advantage of an external sound card but still theres a lot of us that dont record outside of our home studio setups and that dont need such a luxury. i am amazed that till now we are still using dinasoar technology of pci instead of upgrading to modern pci-xpress technology as UAD has done. Re: question about xcite pci-e
Lets not forget that the new Scope software (when ready) will be backwards compatible. So you can just set up a machine with 3 Scope Professional cards (which will likely be cheap on eBay) once the XITE hits the street. Problem Solved!
Re: question about xcite pci-e
-btw-XITE is a pci-e card...which breaks out into a rack box that houses the dsps.

Ladies & Gentlemen.........................Nicolas Cage as Art Garfunkel in the new upcoming blockbuster.........The Sounds Of Silence.
Re: question about xcite pci-e
..so xcite is pcie, just like the old days when you had a breakout box on PCI
Re: question about xcite pci-e
no way - PCI boxes were bus extenders 'processing' almost the the complete bus transfer, which had a severe(!) impact on bus performance - without exception.
The current PCIe connection is the full, native bus - which is faster, but more importantly: it's much more robust electrically. Up to 10m are said to be possible.
cheers, Tom
