Three ADAT devices and Wordclock

Post by braincell »

Do you need wordclock on every ADAT device to prevent jitters? I want to hook three devices together. Does wordclock prevent jitters or remove jitters? Why is ADAT sync not as good as wordclock?

What adat devices would that be? If you hook up digital gear via adat every device must get a wordclock signal via adat or bnc connector.You will need 1 Clockmaster,the other devices will slave to that.

Perhaps he needs a timecode generator or else? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5 ... rator.html

But normally adat should be sufficient. It depends on the other environment of course.

Perhaps this article may help.

sync--->-->---sync--->-->---sync
. M ---<--<---. S1 ---<--<---. S2

'sync M' will be WC master & 'sync S' 1&2 will both be set as WC slaves. 'sync S1' simply passes the WC on to 'sync S2' & can receive digital audio back from it, so doing it like this 'sync S1' would be the 'main' destination which you want to send audio to from both the others, although if 'sync S1' is Scope, you can of course easily route audio between 'sync M' & 'sync S2' as well.

I would like to run the Echo Audio GinaG3 ADAT into the Creamware A16, then to the other computer with the Scope card and then back to the A16 then to the Gina ADAT. I have read that it is better to use the A16 as a master rather than the Scope card. If I eliminate the A16, then I would have no wordclock but it would simplify things, be more quiet (fan noise) and be less wear on the A16.

I have a cheapo adat soundcard (EMU 1212) 2 ADAT boxes, and Zlink a16u all slaved to scope and it works fine. i didnt use any separate wordclock though, just adat/zlink built in sync

so just set the gina clock to "external/adat" and you should be fine
