new pc hw setup

Post by widy »

Question 1 power consumtion of scope:
How high is the power of Scope of a scope pro port ( 14 DSP )

Question 2 Motherboard:
i will by a new PC HW ( My current hw is 6 yeas old and could not be upgraded )
any problems with this motherboard ?
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3, P45 (dual PC2-6400U DDR2)

question 3: power supply
Setup:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3, P45 (dual PC2-6400U DDR2) 107.90 €
PowerColor Radeon HD 4850 Play!, 512MB GDDR3, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, PCIe 2.0R77CA-PE3A) 145,9
Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB SATA II (WD3000GLFS) 233.90 €
Corsair XMS2 Dominator Series DIMM Kit 2GB PC2-8500U CL5-5-5-15 (DDR2-1066) (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) 2x44,9
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 4x 2.83GHz, 333MHz FSB, 2x 6MB shared Cache, boxed (BX80569Q9550) 314,9

+ Second SATA HD ( Samsung ~250GB)
+ DVD Writer
+ Scope Pro (14 dsps )
+ 5 fans (1 cpu , 1 for hd , 1 at front for in , 2 at the back for out ) ( maybe i can reduce the count of fans , but currently i need this because of overclocking )
+ 3 usb devices but all devices has a own power supply so usb should not be a problem (1hd,1 midi controller , 1 midi keyboard )

Is a power supply "be quite 550 W" ok for this Setup ?

What a coincidence, I just ordered a new setup a couple of days ago because my DAW was also about 6 years old and I chose the "Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 550W" too. I ordered 2 HDD's, DVD burner, I already have three 6DSP cards, USB powered Midisport 4x4, and I'm going to use 3 or 4 120mm fans. I got about the same setup with my old DAW which only had a 350W power supply.

I think that 550W will be sufficient for you, looking at your list.

I have this power supply in a couple of computers. Seems to work well...

Antec NeoPower 650 Blue. I like the fan, and that the connectors are modular.

I just did a motherboard & CPU upgrade... from a Pentium 4 to a Q8200 quad-core and Intel DP35DP (thanks for the advice, Stardust! It's working like a fucking charm, no crashes, PCI overflows or other curious anomalies to speak of! Best spend of 200 quid EVER!)

Anyway, I panicked when I first tried to install the mobo, because my PSU is an old 20-pin type, but after a bit of Googling I discovered that it is possible to use these. It's an extremely old 350W power supply, and it seems to be working absolutely fine! That said, it'll be the first thing I check if things ever go awry again, but I think it was quite a good PSU when it was new (used for a server) so perhaps that's why it just keeps on working (It's been through three systems that I know of - an Athlon XP3200, a Pentium 4 and my current quad-core - but it just refuses to die!)

Oh, I just checked - it's a Q Technologies PSU. No idea if that's a good thing or not. I seem to remember reading also, that absolute wattage values are pretty meaningless, which might explain why on paper, this thing is hopelessly underpowered, but in practice it works a charm.

Cheers!

i buyed the following setup
-MB ASUS P5Q PRO
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 4x 2.83GHz, 333MHz FSB, 2x 6MB shared Cache, boxed (BX80569Q9550)
-Corsair XMS2 Dominator Series DIMM Kit 2GB PC2-8500U CL5-5-5-15 (DDR2-1066) (TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) 2x
-PowerColor Radeon HD 4850 Play!, 512MB GDDR3, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, PCIe 2.0R77CA-PE3A)
-Western Digital VelociRaptor 75 SATA II ( just for the system )

i only dissabled fire wire in bios , all other options are default
and after installing of scope i just loaded old projects without any problems ( but i just tried a 2-3 hours )

but a stress test with reverb and more asio channel will follow ... ( i hope i have more time this weekend .. but setup a new pc is so fucking boring ... and im not realy motivated at the moment )

put pm me if you want to know if this setup works realy stabiel

note:
i found in the scope settings a option for saving recovery
this stroes all key in a .reg file )
during the installation just load this file ; i dont know if everyone knows this
