I've just got back from a couple of weeks in the Highlands of Scotland (awesome snow & autumn colours).
We've decided that we take so many photos we would like to edit them while we're away.
Now, I know that any old XP pc laptop will do that but it set me thinking.........
I plan to install things like Recycle on it. I'll take loads of sample (Wav) CD's with me, and spent any spare time converting them to rex files for Stylus etc etc.
So, anything I need to look out for when I buy a laptop, in terms of soundcards and latency, or anything else you can think of please?
Ta guys

Hi Neil,
Not gonna get too techy here, its monday after all...
worth checking here..

suppose it depends on how much of a beast you want - i just got my ma a sony vaio - new one is about 449 squid at the sony centre at the moment - and there is a cheaper one at under 400 - the only difference being webcam (sorry cannee remeber model number) its got vista on it and its pretty sweet - sd card slot on the front etc.. comes with picassa2, and works fine.
i havn't tested it with hardcore audio work or sound card or anything like that - but its light, looks good, and is pretty speedy - i see no reason why recycle and a sequencer wouldnt work on it.. might not be lightning quick like a quad core beast but if you wanna use your windows software then bar spending a fortune i reckon it'll hold out...
if you plan on using firewire make sure its the right chipset (not sure which it is, think best one for audio seems to be Texas instruments)

Re: Any special laptop spec?
Thanks for the tips.
I'll stick with pc instead of mac as I already have the software I need & don't want to buy any mac versions.
I'm looking at an intel board with 2Gb ram, 120 Gb hard disk and 17" screen. Can't remember the full spec but my computer shop man read it out & it sounded fine to me.
As always, grateful for your contributions.

Just another choice with 17" LCD, and larger RAM capacity for future upgrade to 4GB's down the road.
