Zangsta Winds of Change

Post by zangsta »

I´ve been busy for a few days, trying out new stuff, the Samplitude Music Studio 15.
And in the process, I learned some new things about routing in Scope.
Still a lot of learning to do...this can go on for ages..
This track is my first without loops. actually played my Novation XioSynth here.
Drums is Addictive Drums, the free demo. Also some VST synths in use, ZebraCM and Crystal.
At mixdown, I used JuAnCo and XTREMECUT pro.
This was what I did while Obama became president...

Excellent ideas come wherever passion is ignited.
The drums sound good for a freebie demo don't they. The Snare's reverb wasn't noticable till the end. I could here an effect but wasn't sure if it was a gate or not.
I really like the little press rolls that give the drums their authenticity. Are they located on a key close to the Bass Drums? That is an ideal placement as those techniques usually are prior to the Bass Drum as far as real drummers are concerned.
Cool Winds for sure.

What did the Bass though?

The Bass is a Steinberg free vst, vb-1,
I was not really happy with the drums... they sound good, and can be editet and tweaked
very well, but the patterns..the track-programming ??
I may just not understand it, so I had to use what was in a set program for now...next time
I´ll use the force on the little bastard... :x
I don´t know about the press rolls, sorry !

The little 64th note buzzy sound prior to the kick drum.
It gives an authentic sound and style of a real drummer.
Great for fusion where everything goes.

I like the simplicity of the arrangement. Perhaps a lead line in the second half could have lifted the track from ambient background to a 'listening' piece. Have a listen to lan Parsons 'A Valid Path'. On this album, he seems to have mastered the art of lifting electro / ambient tracks to a more progressive level by use of leads/arrangements and a few monks ( could be the 'Delay-Lama' VST plug ? ) . Mind you we all don't have the luxury of having David Gilmour guesting out some killer guitar leads, but you get my drift.......

I agree, Dante, you are quite right. In the final version of this track, I may also make it longer and add some lead of some kind.
I accidentaly put my player in loop track-mode and got to hear the track three times in a row,
and found that the meditative/psychedelic effect of the track made me kind of high.
So a longer version may be called for..

I´m not yet fully comfortable with my digital composing/recording set-up and software,
and once again a track was a spin-of of my experimenting with gear and software. I will probably change the drum-track as well, with som little fills etc.
Most of the tracks that I´ve posted here, I consider as beta-versions...knowing myself, they may end up re-arranged and changed very much in the end
I´ve been to lazy to get into the guitar-playing much,
that´s when I get really obsessive, demanding and hard on myself.... << we wantz to be friendly with itself..>>

Ha...thanks for the tip, Jimmy, now I heard it..I was editing the beginning of this track, to start directly where the bass comes, then I heard the press roll.
So that´s the name for them. I tried to get the hang of them when fooling around with drums, but never got it fluent.
My drumming ability is very limited, but I played with a few bands, as there´s a real lack of drummers that are solid.
I guess many amateur drummers just never hear the song, or something.
