Won A16 Ultra on Ebay, but.....

Post by ChampionSound »

Hi guys,

After years of thinking about buying a A16U, but never had some spare cash to do so, I finally won a 16U at an ebay auction last friday for a very reasonable price.
Right after the end of the auction I sent him a message with the request for the total amount including shipping. No reply. 2 days later I sent him another message. Still nothing.
Now, 5 days later the seller (100% feedback, 272 votes) still hasn't responded yet to my request for the total amount including shipping.

Do some of you have similar experiences and am I too impatient, should I wait a couple of days longer, or should I contact ebay to sort out his contact information for me? I'm a bit worried because if I buy other things on ebay, the seller normally responds within max. 2 days so...

I really don't hope this deal is too good to be true...

Thanks for your replies,

Darcy

As long as you haven't sent any money dont worry about it. if he replies thats fine but things happen.
maybe he will be starring on "cops" next year. :D

I wouldn't worry when you haven't sent him any money. It's possible that he's had to go out of town for his work. That's quite a common thing, but it's only really a worry when you've sent the payment & don't hear back.

There's one other possibility which is the 'worst case scenario' & that is that you won the auction at a price which the seller wasn't prepared to sell for. It's against Ebay rules, but it does happen. My brother won an auction for a Korg Prophecy a while back (for £150) & the guy started making excuses that he'd sold it elsewhere, then after speaking to him about it he admitted that he didn't want to sell it as cheap as that.

Well, I haven't sent him any money yet, simply because I first have to know what the total amount will be...
It could be that he's out of town, or on holidays or something.. I guess I'm going to wait for a couple of days more.

I won the A16 Ultra for 450 euro, which I think is a common price, and certainly not a disaster for the seller. I hope he isn't trying to avoid to sell it for this price.

Thanks for your replies so far! :)

Ok, great! He just responded to my message and apologized for not replying earlier and explained he's out of the country an will be back next week and than he would complete the transaction with me.

That's already better news! :)

(2 be continued...) ;)

He suddenly had to leave the country after he posted an auction? Or he sold something while out of the country? Seems bad!

450Eu is not cheap, but still in reasonable limits if the unit is in a good, full working condition. So I'd say the seller has no reason to retreat from the deal. I have had similar occasions where sellers were unavailable to contact after an auction, usually the same issue with them being not at home for a week or such. But it has never been a problem, they all returned and sent the goods as planned. I mean, all of us who are musicians or related to music, we all know how unsteady and full of unexpected events our lives and schedules are. At least, my own is.

@ YouKa
Yep, you're right. I realise 450E is a regular price nowadays. About a year ago, I stopped looking for an A16U for a while because most of them went on Ebay for between 525 and 600 euro.

@ braincell
He had to leave to the USA before the end of the auction, and will be back in a couple of days. As long as we do the transaction through ebay (paypal) I don't worry too much. But thanks for the warning though.

I didn't know this was "normal". I can not imagine why anyone would want to sell this item. In any event, he should have emailed you he was leaving before you emailed him.
