Morpheen Addict

Post by dawman »

VDAT live stereo recording over a C4 Drum Track using Morpheen.

Morphing Oscillators allow me to swell like a Horn or String section. I like holding the highest and lowest note in the right hand chords, and listening to this puupy growl and gurgle.

Lol...for the first few bars I expected to hear Gary Numan start singing soon...remember "Cars" ?
My daughter recently discovered Gary Numan, and then I told her to check for Ultravox.
So now I hear a lot of music from that period again, even dug out my old vinyls to get some more tracks
for her than they have on youtube.
I also found an Ultravox-track I´ve missed,"Dancing with tears in my eyes"... Midge Ure..awsome vocalist !

Those guys never turned jazzy, as you are prone...great demo..now we all wait for a real song from you !!

Nice job Jimmy, that's the nice thing with morpheen, using the retrigger on the lfo's brings some good sonic options

the performances are great.

you really need to use a bussed reverb. it sounds like the drums are in one(far away) universe and the synths in another(this one, right in your face). recorded music doesn't seem to respond to the use of reverb as an effect in the same way as live. i'm sure it's because live, the sounds are in a room, reflective or not, but recorded instrumnets are only in a room if you put them in one. that is why i would bus a reverb and make sure that everything gets at least a little bit, just to be sure that everything occupies the same acoustic space. more reverb=farther from the listener, less=closer to the listener. then the reverb used as an effect will be more effective....

personally I use a lot of ER with a low lowpass (like 300hz) to give the body part a bit of room. Seems to push back the audio/sample a step or two, so everything doesn't get jammed into a narrow, flat space.

In this case, it seems the drums have too much ER. Sometimes, you can convert the drums down to mono, beef it up a bit, and then put back into some space with ER. The synths sound very clean too, could use some ER. Is it just me? I might be using too much ER.

This this thing would sound awesome on stage tho. Great intro act. Esp the low low bass sound.

Totally agree on the mix aspects.
This is a drum template mix using ambience, MVPro, and RMX160A.
Morpheen is suppose to be in Yo face, low end synth placement and melodic synth are very up front, it's a preset demo.

Nice article on placement techniques also.

My monitors and gear are in LVegas, so this was a simple stereo live VDAT over a set of wireless ear monitors. They function rather well also as the above comments prove.

I finally have time to record the music I like next week, and have many original tunes I need to master for a production demo.

Glad you guys have sharp ears and I will be needing your comments as I will post here for some ideas prior to sending off the projects.

Thanks Again.

and is unneeded info for the purpose of making music, but it might be interesting, stardust...

i know you know what's up Jim, just chopping it up with you....knowing that it's a preset demo, it's very well done.
