Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
Has anyone used Scope to do a DJ Mix? Beatmatching, kill switches etc? Is it possible just using Scope?

Killswitchs ? Beatmatching ?
What is it exactly what you want.....
you send your vinyls to scope IO and want to mix inside scope ?
Have scope mixers "match" the beats of records by delaying them ?
Kill your listeneres with a switch ?

Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
Well, I want to load 2 tracks into different samplers and once the second sample is triggerred, match the tempo on the fly. Is this a job for STS5000? I think I can manage the routing to make EQ changes and add effects.

I cant answer this one....
Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
You could do it with a sampler, but why not try something like Ab Live or specific DJ/VJ software?ElectronicaDub wrote:Well, I want to load 2 tracks into different samplers and once the second sample is triggerred, match the tempo on the fly. Is this a job for STS5000?

Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
you should applaud all effort to stay inside scope

Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
With stock stuff it'll be difficult..
A SCOPE DJ plugin would be the perfect solution (like the winamp extension thet was around some years ago)..
something like two media slots with BPM analysis, BPM conversion on the fly, jog / scratch and a cross fader, plus mic in with insert slots (think vocodizer), instrument in (three-o-three
), master section with insert slots, record bus out..
That would kill any DJ like host app out there.. even many HW DJ consoles!

Wavelength's MixMaster
Simple free DJ mixer - not the all-in-one bpm detection fx automixer as dreamt of above eh. Still may be usefull

Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
not exactly on the topic, but I'll throw it in anyway...
check Devine Machine for such apps (DM)
it has a great mouse-wheel driven grid interaction on the beats
afaik the timestretching-pitchshifting stuff of STS 5000 is calculated on the CPU anyway...
cheers, Tom

Devine Machine looks great.

OOoooh, who made this Scope plugin? Is it in the devices section?FrancisHarmany wrote:Kill your listeneres with a switch ?
Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
I wouldn't suggest the use of Scope's samplers to attempt to mix tracks or stems, rather as a way to fly in particular sounds (one-hit shots, vocal samples, perhaps tempo-matched loops even with the sts5000). It's also going to depend on where you're mixing as well.
I do actually use Scope in several ways when I do studio mixes, but my setup is a bit atypical so it's not something I would explain so that it could be mimicked, especially as my usage changes depending on the software and gear I have at that moment.

Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
use Ableton Live, or Traktor.
Re: Using Scope to do a DJ Mix
Ok I've got a few moments more...
Full track mixing (house/trance/techno/drum&bass style mixing):
Option1: Use Traktor/PCdj etc in 'external mixer' mode, sending each 'deck'/track's output to a Scope ASIO pair, mix on a Scope mixer using any standard midi controller. A fader based controller that can remap the faders to use any datatype will be an advantage here as you can dedicate 2 faders (assuming you're only mixing on 2 'decks') for 'pitch' control and set them to use pitchbend data for 14bits of resolution (16384 steps instead of 128). Knobs can be used to control filters and/or eq's in Scope, either inserted in the mixer directly or externally, buttons can mute channels or trigger effects etc. Use Optimizer at the end of the chain to keep signal levels under control.
Option2: Use Traktor/PCdj etc in 'internal mixer' mode, sending the FINAL mix out to scope, using scope to add extra effects & samples over the top (samples could be triggered in a separate sampler and mixed in scope, or an app like deckadance or pcdj can use samples internally). Use Optimizer at the end of the chain to keep signal levels under control.
Option3: Use Scope alongside a traditional DJ mixer, with vinyl/cd/Serato Scratch/Traktor Scratch/etc in whatatever way your think best. Many mixers have send/return loops that you can patch scope effects into (with appropriate cabling), you could also use Scope sent to extra dj channels to fly in samples & loops, etc. Final mix output can be sent to Scope to use Optimizer at the end of the chain to keep signal levels under control.
Creative mixing (blending full tracks, mix stems, individual parts, samples etc):
Option1: Use Ableton Live with a select number of 'busses' sent to Scope for mixiing/processing/effects/muting etc. Note that all of this is possible directly within Ableton as well so you'll have to give some thought to your creative options and signal flow. Use Optimizer at the end of the chain to keep signal levels under control.
Option2: Go experimental and use software like Max/MSP or Bidule, with individual outputs sent to Scope for mixing/processing/effects/muting etc. The sky's the limit here, use Optimizer at the end of the chain to keep signal levels under control.
--------------
I have done ALL of the above in my setup for studio mixes without even rewiring, just a bit of careful signal routing. Scope sits in my second PC and my 16 channel soundtracs console has Scope wired to several ins & outs, including a bus send. My Dj mixer is also connected to several inputs & outputs of the larger external mixer, including 2 bus sends. I have Traktor 3.x, Serato Scratch, a dual cd unit (which is a bit limited but ok for studio use), 2 technics 1200's several synths etc and use ALL of the above, including 3 computers (one hosting bidule) and 3 external synths plus Scope.
