A remix of the neverending story-ish synthpop tune I posted earlier. The producer is going to do a club event to promote the video, and so we decided to do a bit more dance-able remix. More like reharmonization actually...
So the thing is, we will create remix kits based on the reharmonized progression of this track, instead of the original to make the remixer's guy's life a little easier. Essentially the remixer will be doing a remix of a remix, so to speak. Kind of interesting.
This is just hot off the press, I still want to tweak the balancing between the vocal vs the comping... the vocals are overpowered by the comping.. dunno, what do you think?
Also, compare it with the original, and I'd like to hear your comments on my reharmonizing too.. I think I did a fairly good job at keeping the harmonies "advanced", creating a new groove (over the original 8 beat base to a 16 beat based funk) It's another take at my continuing persuit in trying to introduce advanced progressions to dance music. I think it can be done. Some people might say it sounds fusion-ish... but with this texture, it's obviously not fusion, so what it is it.
I also went a bit "rock" or electro influenced indie-rock in some parts, obviously being influenced by the local dance/indie rock scene. Anyway, overall I'm quite content with this one. A little innovative, a little advanced in harmony, while maintaining good groove.

Re: Remix of the neverending story-ish tune
Wow....Beautiful. I really like the vocal arrangements and the vocals effects.
Lots of action going on, perfect for video games, as when you are competing with visual effects, the arrangement must be powerful, no problem with that here. Nice arrangement.

Re: Remix of the neverending story-ish tune
thnx, I did go back and do a second mix, partially because i didn't like how the vocals sat in the mix, but also because my "just about to die" daw crashed last minute, and my scope mixing project got lost.

This is pre "make it as loud as scientifically possible", so it's got the full dynamic range. I like it like this, but crappy systems won't reproduce it well, so I still have to do the loud-ifying process.. I think the second mix has better separation between all the parts, but I couldn't check on the monitor speakers (it's 1am now), so I wonder how it'll sound. Just doing stuff through akg240 for now.
As I mix the vocal tracks again, its' becoming more and more obvious that the vocal tracks I got were all pre compressed quite a bit. I wanted the non compressed, raw vocal tracks!
The arrangement is very busy, I guess I like to fill in the grooves to keep it chugging. I wonder if there's a good way to keep things chugging when the melody is in pure 8 beat.. without using the comping to fill in the 16ths to convert it to a 16beat based groove.

Well I did notice my ears appreciating the occasional drop outs and use of silence, which is great when an action heavy mix is " chugging " along.
