Cubase5,Midex8,Pulsar Incompatible??

Due to creamware's lack of fully functioning win2000 drivers i have been forced to place the Pulsar2 in a seperate PC machine and my intention was to treat it as an external sound module with my Main PC driving Cubase/Midex8/Delta66. Simple setup really, so i thought!! The pulsar refuses to co-operate, i send a midi signal from my master keyboard to the Midex In1, Midex Out 1 to Pulsar In. All relevant Pulsar gui midi routing settings are fine. eg. Pulsar2 MIDI A Source to whatever creamware synth i require. I select Midex 1 output in Cubase hit the keyboard and i get held,locking notes, but if i connect the master keyboard direct to the Pulsar In It all works nice, figure that out! What makes the pulsar not compatible with the Midex8 as all the rest of my synths kinda like the Midex, but pulsar dont wanna play ball here!!
Anyone using a Midex8 with Pulsar with success.

Depends on what you want to do?
From my point of view, until the creamware win2k drivers become Final, and support dual cpu configuration i cant see the point in upgrading to win2k from 98/ME. There's nothing to be gained yet from pulsar on Win2k. Cubase on the other hand is as solid as a rock for myself on win2k. I kid you not i aint had a crash yet!! Songs that were using 70-80% CPU on a single P3 933 cpu has gone down dramatic to about 30-40% usage.
The only niggle i have being for some strange reason the delta 66 seems to lose its audio signal/stream occasionally when changing/opening vst windows or when switching between cubase and Reason programmes, i will have to investigate this further, and also trying to get the pulsar ( in seperate PC ) respond to midi via the Midex8.

Are you sure you're using "Pulsar MIDI Input" and not "Sequencer Midi Input" ... I read that you are, but be sure, this definitely works fine without problems.

Definately. Pulsar2 Midi A Source into say Inferno and Blue Synth set on midi channels 1 and 2 for arguments sake. Then audio signals into mixer then into P2SPDIF Dest. It should be that simple! I'm stumped!!
No thanks to Steinberg or creamware support, lousy service! Midex Drivers are 1.11.

Download the EarlyFirst Midi Monitor (in the free section of http://www.earlyfirst.com ) and be sure the MIDI light is flashing... Are you getting MIDI?

Thanks for that.
Yes MIDI Data is being received according to MIDI Monitor, the channel lights up everytime i press/release the keys.
Two notes might work now and again, but the majority of the time i press the keys, midi data is sent but the pulsar either does not respond, or i get a very low octave sound playing in the background through out and the only way to stop it is to hit about 5 keys (5 notepoly set).
Could there be a setting i have overlooked on Cubase i am wondering?

Incidentally the Midex Interface has a USB/Midi Thru button which lets you toggle between operating modes. The pulsar still gives no joy when using midi thru without cubase running although my hardware synths work fine. Have you tested a midex8 with Pulsar2 yourself incidentally? Did it work for you?

Not the Midex, but it works fine on the eMagic AMT8 and the MOTU MidiExpress XT 8x8...

It sort of sounds like it could be a MIDI feedback loop -- do you have anything routed to a Midi <b>Destination</b> inside your Pulsar project?

No, The Midi destination is not routed in my setup. Its now getting to a stage where it could be anything eg. Motherboard/USB, Midex8, Win2000 You never know!! Thanks for your insight. If you get any other suggestions, let me know.

Hey, for me, the MIDI in windows 2000 never worked! Maybe you have the same problem as me!

My results today suggest the problem is not Win2K.
I installed pulsar2 and midex8 on an intel chipset board today with win 98SE. Configured the Pulsar to receive midi In only from the Midex8 interface and still has the same problem. One of these devices and i'm assuming the midex does not confirm to proper MIDI Implementation code or the pulsar 2 midi is based on old Midi code. I will try using another midi interface eg. Midiman Winman 2x2 or something alike. But Midex8 DONT Work with Pulsar2 on any o/s it looks like,Be warned!!

Why didnt i think of this before i ask myself.
If anyone is interested here goes.
Instead of routing the midex8 Midi out direct to the pulsar in which was causing all the hassle, i just sent the midex8 out back to the master keyboard and used the MIDI Thru on the Master Keyboard to Pulsar and boy was i shocked to see it work.
Somebody explain why Pulsar's MIDI port works this way but not direct from Midex Out

It could be sending too much clock information or something like Active Sensing, which some gear really doesn't get along with. I would still send a quick note of your experiences to support@creamware.de so they are aware of it.

my Midex8 works without problems.I can connect it direct to Pulsar2,Powersampler
and ScopeSRB with classic I/O.Before, i had
2 Opcode Midi Translator Interfaces and i´ve
had the same problem with the Scope.It don´t
works when i connect it directly.Pulsar2 and
Powersampler works with both interfaces
(Midex8 and Opcode)

Hi,

I use the Midex-8 with Pulsar I, and it works fine for me, ran some 32nd note arpeggio's, recorded that through ASIO into Cubase, then checked that Wave in Wavelab, and the maximum deviation I found was about 1 10th of a milisecond... pretty good compared to the 3 to 8 miliseconds standard deviation when running through the Pulsar drivers!

Also the temposync when running patterns on a synth like the SB-404 is a lot tighter now, with maximum deviations of 2 10ths of a milisecond.

So, all at all, I am a happy Pulsar - Midex8 user!
