software for measure dB ?

Hi all !
I need some help with a stupied little problem !

I need a (win,PC) software that can measure dB but
I can´t find any ?

to be more specific : I need to mesure external sound (live gig etc ) .

software can only measure whatever you feed it... if you attenuate it at the pre-amp phase, then your measurements won't be accurate at all. If you need an objective measurement, you probably need something specifically for that. (that's what you want right?)

you can get a db meter almost anywhere for cheap. even companies like radio shack have them. since you need a calibrated mic, it'd be cheaper to by the hardware than software.
