Glad you have a good ear Brotha 'Man.
I still think my SISS mini beats the pants off of these 5000 articulations instruments.
Rompler is a good description. Just like Fantoms, Motifs, etc. Having thousands of weak sounds is so jive to me. I can take a single 4 layer sample and edit it to do legato, tremolo, marcato, etc. Just give me the highest quality recording of the instrument, and I'll make it happen.
Too many requests from musicians that do not want to learn the intricacies of the instruments has caused this. Developers think that since the hundreds who make these requests can't perform the basic articulations themselves, therefore they won't know the difference, hence the generic VSTi's that come with such fabulous presets and keyswitches made by the " Pros ".
Even the ancient gigasampler library from Miroslav Vitous sounds better than many of these regurgitations.
You seem like you are skillful w/ editing, etc. Find some old cheap libraries and use your ears.
Besides how can one compose w/ someone else's Crescendo? You have to write around their preset? Some of these guys are trying to make money, not music.
Sadly it seems that when I find a good developer and want to stick with him, he eventually tries to make more money by pleasing the masses.
I really get a kick out of all of the " Sophisticated Conductors " at NS forums that talk as if they were composing movies scores, and their opinions and vast knowledge of music is the final word. I doubt that many of them have sat by the Orchestra Pit on Broadway, or ever been to a symphony. As they try to convince others that their library is the best, blah, blah. Yet they cry and become angry when someone tells them that strings do NOT sound that way in the real world.
They can take their Wolf-Wolf dolls and run back to their bedrooms, or better yet, go see a real performance. How does one reproduce something that they have never felt?
The avatar is way cool too. Was that like 20 years ago?............................Oh sorry.
