Do MP3 encoders sound different?
well, codecs do sound different, and depending on the material, different codecs may yield very different results. such comparative, technically detailed reviews are great, but in these cases, they are somewhat outdated. I mean... using a LAME release dating to june 2000... and that was the latest of the contestants. *cough*
