Cats and Plasmas

I'm a dog sort of guy really but when our last old bloke passed away [insulinoma he was 14 and we just sort of let him keep going until the end ] we thought that he was such a fine sort of fella that we just couldn't get another one so good and anyway we wanted to do a bit of travelling so we stayed petless .
2 years ago a local cat noticed that we had a vacancy and decided to move in . This didn't go down too well with the owner ...the cat was a Burmese who cost about $ 800 and had had a couple of very expensive surgeries after car accidents :( and the deal was that she could hang around our place in the daytime but I had to take her home in the evening , which I did until Charlie started beating me back home to my place after I had delivered her back to her origonal home ....so after 2 weeks of this I just thought fuck this :)
Anyway I've never noticed animals paying attention to teevee... CRT just never did it for them , but we were watching "Parrots of Australia " I dont know why most of them seem to hang around here anyway , when we saw Charlie up at the screen trying to have a go at the birds flying around in the the Documentary . Now of course this was most amusing but we let it pass . Incidentally when we we put on the stones Biggest Bang dvd she wants to actually get IN the screen , I have to put her outside cos she gives me the shits but then she comes back in the kitchen window and tries to get in with Mick and Keith again ..such a slut :cry:
So Tonight there was nothing much on and we watched " The Big Cats Diary " about Lions and Cheetahs in Kenya and just for a laugh Kerry said go and get Charlie and I'm telling you she was Absolutely riveted to the screen . The humans in Land Rovers were pretty boring she said but when the big boys and the cubs came on the ears were up and she was staring at the screen like it was the best teevee she'd ever seen . So I'd like to say ,if you like your cat buy a plasma and watch cats and birds on teevee . They like it more the than old dear likes Lifestyle ...and thats saying something :D

Heh - that sounds like FUN!

Apparently dogs don't really 'get' TV though - something to do with their eyesight not being tricked by the 50/60Hz refresh rate, or something (I think this applies across the board; it's not just CRT or LCD or whatever, they just don't get it).

Other funny things to do with animals include:

Playing harmonica to a dog (one of those cheap guitar tuning reed things works as well). Please be assured that the howling is not an expression of pain! It's a weird primeival reaction to certain frequencies, and is basically them trying to 'join in' on the noise you're making.

My parents' dog wants to join in when my sister plays 'fur elise' (and only that song) on the piano, and they seem to love wild life docu's on telly as well... maybe depends on the breed (the singer is a golden retriever, the docu watcher a jack russell).

About dogs not getting tv - not entirely true. I always thought this to be the case as well until a friend moved into my house and she had jack russell. Whenever football was on he would go mental - sit in front of the tv then jump up trying to get the ball. It was a big CRT TV so it was definately the ball he was going for. It was about the time the world cup was on as well so after the initial amusement wore off it was bloody annoying!!

Even worse, he would get saliva all over the screen - except it wasnt just saliva - when I went to wipe it off, I realised the little bugger had scratched the screen all over the place with his claws - not happy! :evil:

Also, my mum and dads dog doesnt like other dogs on TV - he starts growling and occasionally barks at them - Crufts is unwatchable (not necessarily a bad thing tho :lol: ).

the dog of the house (a she) likes to join us in front of the telly, which is probably her natural sense for community - but then if animals get on the scene she's highly alerted, ears up, sniffing on the tube.. (hey, sometimes it's an advantage to have that old-fashioned stuff), but she looks most funny when she follows a running animal with her eyes and then looks around the TV's backside to check where it's gone :o :D
also certain sounds in film background noise get her attention - she runs up to the speaker sniffing on the membrane.
She seems to prefere horse events over soccer which she still enjoys, and (as reported) isn't really interested in people. Except the singer of the German teen band Tokyo Hotel, at least when he still had that manga style hairdo - must have been a gorgeous fur in her eyes :lol:
