Breakbeat / pure evil

Post by chriskorff »

Hello all!

This is one of the grimiest tunes I've ever written.

Enjoy!

PS I zipped it because PZ doesn't like WMA files (don't ask why it's in WMA format... stupidity on my part! I clicked on the wrong button.)

Cheers!

Quality. Grimey is quite a valid description. :D

Takes me back to 94/95 DJ SS style. Would have liked it a bit faster but nice one nonetheless

Thanks all!

Irrelevance: that's sort of the sound I was going for, but I wanted to modernise it a bit — the world and his dog are making good jungle, but I thought slowing things down and having a more obvious half-time/double-time thing might bring it into the 21st Century a bit... but apparently not!

Cheers!

The main problem with jungle & drum'n'bass is that it's nearly impossible these days to create something 'fresh' sounding. A lot of producers (particularly the 'pioneers' of the genre) seem to have given up on even attempting to achieve groundbreaking results and instead opt for regurgitating whatever 'sound' they've staked a claim for.

That said, I really like this one Chris. It's well produced and I'd certainly prefer to hear more of this on radio shows as opposed to the mundane playlists we all have to endure week in week out, in the faint hope of hearing that one stand-out track. Jungle and D&B used to be so diverse. Such a shame that in the 21st century it's become so bland and boring.

Back to this track ...I think I see what you're getting at Chris and reckon that you have succeeded in bringing things up to date in a rhythmic sense. Possibly swapping out one or two of the sounds used could make all the difference on this front, but like I said before, I really like it as it stands.

Encore!! :D

Hello all!

I've finished the tune - it has changed a lot! I'd appreciate your comments on it.

Peace!

PS @ Irrelevance - I listened to some DJ SS tunes a couple of days ago, and yes, you're right - it does sound like 94-95 SS! I was a bit pissed off actually, I didn't think it sounded like anything too specific, but it must have seeped into my subconscious somehow (makes sense - I listen to a lot of jungle!)
