If you mean the VERY first series with William Hartnell, that's interesting.

BBC 4 in the UK last week showed 7 episodes of this series - all based on the first appearance of the DAleks (&Thals).
I have so many memories (I thought) of this series and hiding behind the sofa as a child.
I've watched the first 2 episodes so far and believe you me, I almost fell asleep.
I don't want to put you off but I can't believe how wooden the acting was, how "frightfully old English" it was too.
Perhaps in its day it was cutting edge & frightening, or perhaps it was a childhood thing, but sadly I probably won't watch the other 5 episodes I recorded.

No, it was the series with Christopher Eccleston. Nice, I've got it recorded. Who-ho! I've seen some episodes I haven't seen.
Those Daleks are really mean aren't they?
Next Saturday the new series begins, with the new Doctor (for us, here in Chicago, of course).
And I am hooked. :-)
This is brilliant science-fiction.

Bingo
Christopher Ecclestone was brilliant and I was sad he only did one series. He redeemed himself by (dis)appearing in Heroes though.
That Dr Who series was superb, full of in-joke political comments for the Brits and others. I'd like to see it again.

So, David Tennant as the Doctor will be new to you over there.
Well, all I can say is that it simply gets better all the time. You'll enjoy it just as much, if not more than, Christopher Ecclestone and wait for a series or 2 for the episode "Weeping Angels" - one of the best ever.

Enjoy

I think The Empty Child was the most original in these series while the one with the farting aliens was the funiest. I can't wait for the new series although I'm going to miss Christopher too. And it's not clear what happened to Jack, he remained on Satelite 5.

It might be - I don't pay that much attention to the titles but it'll be recognisable when the "angels" appear (don't want to give too much away)

Bingo - what happens to Jack?
Not saying a thing - perhaps he is never in it again - perhaps he is. I wouldn't spoil anything for you and promise not to mention anything again.

Do you get Torchwood over there?

We don't get Torchwood here yet (as far as I could search) but I can't wait until it gets here. It was created by the same Russell Davies, so it must be good. And we get to see what's Captain Jack doing. Cool. I can probably get the DVDs.
CSI is big is in US wich, frankly, I find it unbearably boring, predictable, cliche. And who the hell is interested in solving murders every evening at 6. It is insane! It must be one of those death desensitization programs. And then there are others targeted for teenage audiences. It seems that all american adults are interested in either golf, basketball, baseball, car racing, Jay Leno and not learning anything new in their lives.

i call it Turdwood. It's sadly not very good. Feels like a bunch of teenagers did the script thinking it was really adult: swearing out of context, sex out of context (men on men, women on women, aliens on everyone) - it all reaks a little of trying too hard to be adult and shocking and being neither.

That's disappointing. Fame spoils everything it seems.

Yep I agree with you about Torchwood in that respect - it's a bit stomach turning on the seedier bits. The reason I mentioned it was in respect of Captain Jack though.
I wouldn't but the DVD's Bingo, just wait for the series on TV.
Another one to watch out for is the Sarah Jane series for children that was shown last year on BBC UK. Sarah Jane used to be an assistant to one of the Doctors incarnations (with K9). It was a kids series but quite enjoyable.

Funnily enough though I quite enjoy CSI Vegas & NY but CSI Miami consists of a ginger haired guy standing sideways with his feet 18 inches apart, hands on hips and talking a load of rubbish (called a script). NCIS is quite fun too.
The good thing about the CSI franchises though is the incidental backing music - always lots of good stuff.

i used to love the Vegas one, but got bored of the formula after a while. But Caruso in Miami is annoying (and he's an arrogant twat in real life - he left the excellent NYPD Blue under a cloud). There's a CSI Miami drinking game involving drinking every time he puts on or takes off his sunglasses, puts his hand on his hip and cocks his head which makes the show more enjoyable :D.

Maybe i should devise a Turdwood version: drink every time someone says 'shit' for no discernable reason, every time some has a same sex kiss and every time someone has sex with an alien (two drinks if it's a same sex alien session). Problem is you'd get too drunk. None alcoholics and designated drivers only drink every time there's a male-female kiss (you'll still be sober by the end).

No I didn't know about the Miami drinking game either, but I doubt I'd be standing after half an episode.

Got to say though, formulaic or not, there are some fit women in the CSI and NCIS serieseses

Winner for me is Abi in NCIS.

Now, I agree totally about Torchwood but one bit really made me laugh.

"Captain Jack - have you ever eaten alien meat"?
"Yes"
"What was it like?"
"Well, he enjoyed it"

What do you think about Coupling, that's another british series we're getting. In fact PBS is filled with british shows.

Never watched it.

I only watch about an hour of TV per day so after Dr Who, Heroes (when it's on), a couple of CSI's/NCIS and the Bionic Woman, that's my week spoken for.

i worked on Coupling in a small capacity - never thought it was great but amusing enough on first watch, but can't stand up to repeated viewing. For quality BBC comedies look out for:

I'm Alan Partridge
The Mighty Boosh
Flight of the Conchords
15 Storeys High
League of Gentlemen (not to everyone's taste this one)

Oh my
Oh my...........

Saturday 30th June 2008 and probably the best Dr Who episode ever.
The penultimate episode of the current series and I can't wait for the finale next week.
Edge of the seat stuff and I even had tears in my eyes.

Bingo ................ I hope nobody gives the plot away but you are REALLY in for a treat when it reaches your shores.
If you're hooked now and you think it is brilliant sci-fi, just wait until you see this.................

Still stunned on Monday morning :)
