CRACKLING NOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by korgano »

I am starting a New one, since I havent heard for problem like mine.
1) I am long time pulsar 2 Scope user ( 6 years )
2) I have installed PC with:
Q6600
GA P35 DS3
2GB Ram
MSI ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO
SATA BARACUDA 500GB , 3Gb/s
and had that Crackling... a lot in Recorded stuff in Wavelab 5.01a (build 231)
and a little bit in played stuff in cubase and win med player.
3) I did all possible Tips and tricks to optimize the system that I always do
and some new that I have found in web.
NOTHING HELPS.
4) Then...I have started from begining. I have format HD and installed
WIN XP PRO again.
5) I had only WInXP, Scope and wavelab installed. Nothing else.
not even Grafic card driver.
6) I have recorded simple mp3 song played from win med player on wavelab
and no CRACKLING, all CLEAN. GREAT !!!!!
7) BUT.....as soon as I have installed Cubase sx 2 i have it again, and I didnt
even start Cubase.
8) I have now Uninstalled Cubase but crackling is still there.
a bit in play, and lots of in Recored.

I give up!!!!!
Is there anybody there how knows this problem.
I have read many threads, but none about this one with crackling in play and record.
Please HELP!!!!

thanx for reply.
Be sure that I have tried really every tips tricks tweaks and so on.
I have uninstalled Cubase and still have crackling with only
1 wave dest and 1 wave source driver in project.
the thingis that crackling is sometimes huge and sometimes none, and sometimes little bit.
Maybe it is Scope card? maybe the temperature on card is to high because the fan of grafic card is blowing directly to scope card.
Ullis tried on each level. no change.
I will try to collect all config tips that i have done and write it here.
Thanks to you all.

>>If I read your response right you dont have ASI source and ASIO dest in your routing and try to handle everything via wav source dest.

tha will for sure result in crackling or high latency.

Switch to SCOPE ASIO then.<<
Yes, but I am not using cubase at this moment it is only win media player that plays mp3 and scope project including dest and source weav driver.
Wave lab input and output is set to creamware rec/ play 1.
So I dont really need ASIo...or?
The problem ist that, I am trying with same project setup that I have been using on my old P4 2,8 GHz, and it is not working.

>>I guess you know that the scope driver (like many others) is not multi client ASIO.
That means only one ASIO application at a time. <<

Do you mean like using ASIO and ASIO 2, same time?
I didnt have that in my big normal project.
It was only ASIO 2 24bit.

>>1)When do you have it ? almost always on this new PC
2)When listening to a mp3 via MP with which sound device in XP ? Sound is set to Creamware rec/play.
3)When listening to a track in cubase with scope ASIO ? YES
4)When recording did you record with SCOPE ASIO or wav inputs ?when I record in Cubase then its ASIO 2 24bit.
Wavelab records in WAVE driver.

Thanx

So, I am Back.
I would like to know is there anybody using some of my PC components and have possibly problems with them?

Is it problem That I have put HD to work on 3Gb/s mode?
Is it problem that is My SATA HD is probablly working in IDE mode.?

I have two HD:
one SATA with XP on it and one IDE for Storage.

I couldnt get SATA installed on WIN XP install to be recognized as SATA.
Maybe it is working as SATA, where can I see that?

I have made nLite install CD with Service Pack 2 on it and SATA drivers.
But when I enable AHCI in BIOS before I install WIN XP , SATA drive will not be recognized.
If I take F6 option to load the drivers then it takes me to Floppy that I dont have(that is whay I have made nLite install CD).

Hello,
>>I dont know nlite XP. I just remenber nlite98.<<
nLite is small program that allows you to put Windows Install CD, service pack and some drivers , all on one CD, so is Windows installed right away with service pack and drivers for SATA.

>>1)All devices of scope are available and runing properly ? right ? YES
2)The synths in scope directly do NOT cracle ? right ? I DONT USE SCOPE SYNTHS

3)Whenever you involve a native ASIO application or wav device it comes to crackles ? right. YES, but it is mostly in recorded stuff in Wavelab or other similar sound editing program. That means you can hear cracks after is recorded as you play back. And it is on the recorded wave.

4)Are you sure that you dont miss necessary drivers/parts ?
YES...I am using DirectX 9.0c..is that a problem maybe?
USING SCOPE 4 software
SCOPE DRiver setting 2 wave in, 2 wave out, 2 midi.
scroller all the way to big and reset if idle is unchecked.
ULLIs crack no metter what.
HArdware accelerate also.
CPU and system temp. is fine 35 and 41 C.

6)You say that installing SX2 screws the installation.
But Cubase does not change HW drivers.
I SEE now that Cubase has nothing to do with that.

7)Is your scope card and the USB Host on the same IRQ ?
NO sharing, SCOPE is alone on IRQ 20.
I had it on several PCIs until I have found it.

8) I can not disable PnP in my BIOS or set Latency time.
this BIOS does not have that options.

Right now I will install WIN XP again since I dont see my IDE drive in BIOS.
and I belive I have SATA drive on the wrong SATA port. I have it in the orange, and I think it should go to Purple, since is SATA2 drive on 3GB/s.

If that dont work, I will install WIN XP on IDE drive an disconect SATA. Will see then.
THANKS to YOU ALL PEOPLE...REALLY.

if the sata drive is not recognized, you probably have the wrong setting in the bios for sata.

I have installed WIN XP again and SATA is recognized and works fine, but problem is stil there.
How can you In Creamware driver / settings adjust 24bit for wave? I would like to try in 24bit maybe makes a difference:
Also I here light plops when I minimize Cubes during play mode.
Is there way to disable PnP outside BIOS( dont have the option in BIOS)
It makes me belive that this crackling is comming kind of:
1)First recording almost none
2) sec rec FEW cracks here and there
3) third rec CRACKing alltheway.
4) 4th rec ..same as 2..
and then from begining.( this all in time around 5min.)

my intuition says its a buffer/loop problem you have somewhere.
I forgot to check my windows audio settings yesterday.

I do remember I have had issues with it....

have you loaded enough Wave Sources in your project ? I remember teh ammount should be the same as the number of devices you have configured in the windows driver part...........

other ideas:
- check master/slave clock is correct
- is your disk old and begin to be full ? I had similar problem one day, finally gone when replaced C drive by a new one. the old C was quite old and close to dying. After disk change all is ok.
- not sure it is the same problem with you though, but nice to be able to eliminate these possible causes anyway.

No,all hardware is brand new.
Right now i have seen that Opening a DVD burner and put the dvd stops wavelab from recording end even cubase from playing( sometimes)
That can not be right?

Did you check the number of wave source devices in your project and in your windows audio settings ? I am almost sure there was something with those having to be the same..............

I don't think so, eventhough I don't use wavelab.

It is possible that it shows that there is a driver/hardware problem (something not well installed).

where can I dowload newer driver.
on the creamware website is not there.

although I repeat, this same set up with projects and same cubase and same wavelab was working fine on my old PC pentium 4 2,8ghz.

Ah ok i see,
I have a pentium 4 only, but i remember some problem with hyperthreading or dual cores causing cracklings (there is something to do in the bios if i remember well). Otherwise i do not know what it is (i am pretty sure it can be fixed though, and that it comes from something in the compouter settings or may be something not well attached in the box.... can't help much more than that :-/
