Well I have finally did a recording w/ VDAT.

It sounds much better than Cubase, etc.

I become very busy again starting tommorrow, so I have all night to get this finished,

I only need to know how to record VDAT to Reaper, then I suppose that can be downloaded to the Z.


I would really appreciate a little picture from a routing window, since that is something I am familiar with.

But all you need is VDAT out > Mixer (st out) > ASIO dest


And press record in Repear and play on VDAT

Yep, that way you can mix with scope fx. Or, you can just "unload" VDAT's "tape", open the audio files in Reaper, and render a mix there. Just line up each audio file at the beggining. To join two mono files into one stereo, you can use the free app interleaver (it's on the "other" VDAT thread).

I decided to download Goldwave, and a free wav to mp3 converter.

Goldwave played back through the 24 bit WAV drivers sounds O.K., but as Astro mentioned earlier that VDAT magic disappears. But the quality is O.K. for demo purposes.

My problem was when Goldwave went to the mp3 converter, it has major clicks, pops, and warbles like an old Roland Space Echo.

At least I have VDAT finished.

I am very pleased w/ VDAT's quality.

I decided to make demos of everything I use from 3rd party, SDK, and CW / SC.

This demo is a solo Rhodes number using MCCY's FluLiq.

It sounds so new and fresh. There's no similar effect that I am aware of that has that Liquid shimmer.

My Rhodes cannot be used anymore w/o that effect being inserted, and of course the Wax-S Wah-Wah, and Pro Vintage Delay.

I have never had the total Zawinul package until recently.

If ya want to keep the VDAT sound then why not route back into VDAT and then convert the resulting wave to mp3 using Lame

basically what he did...goldwave was just a batch converter using LAME...

to be honest, I find that pretty strange, too - and I admit I don't really have a clue about the reason.
That's how I noticed it:
someone sent me a file showing the operation of a Boss Bass Eq pedal, a dry file without the pedal and another one with fx applied.
I tried to build a similiar setup with Scope EQ, sending the dry file to a dedicated FX chain. It was easy to a/b/c listen and I came to a point where I found the Scope EQ more pleasing, while retaining the character of the file.
It was more detailed, more pronounced.

To transmit the file I had to make an mp3 from it, so I opened it in Reaper and let it render the thing.
After that I wasn't able to tell the 'Boss-processed' from the Scope version anymore - but within Scope I clearly could hear the difference.
Needless to mention that was 16bit 44.1k and of course not the lowest bitrate available

It's too bad that there are not CC's attached to the transport controls.

Being able to trigger a segue by hitting a key is a great feature.

I do this in Giga w/ no sweat, and to be honest live, the difference isn;t that noticable probably. But in a live " solo" enviroment being able to trigger sections of strings during piano solos, in an Orchestral venue of course, would be a serious weapon.

I too am interested in this VDAT sounds better thing. I have yet to see any proof.

I am pretty confident in that a file recorded in VDAT will sound the same played back (pre-mixer) from REAPER given you use some form of 32-bit ASIO driver.

I am pretty sure this applies to recording in REAPER too.

When auditioning audio files, you are most likely using some form of mixer. This should be added into the equation.
