typing delay or other numbers

Let's say i use a delay or a reverb or a compressor (it doesn't matter).

When i try to type a certain delay time or a predelay or a release time i get nothing.
The only thing that happens is that the number gets black and that's all. I have to do it turning the button but i can't always get it exactly where i want.

Any ideas?

I assume that i can't control it with midi, right?

Can i assign midi by right clicking or is there another way?
