Mono HW effect on stereo send?

Post by johncemt »

So let we say that i want to use my ol' HW mono analog phaser in scope mixer. Scope mixer send is stereo. And i want that my effect feels like stereo. Is this possible? How do i route that in external master effect plugin (or just external effect)?

I normally use STM2448 so I refer to it.
Scope mixer sends are mono, the returns are stereo. Well you can use 2 of the sends to feed independently a stereo effect, or, to have a true stereo send you can use the monitor out , but well, this is not the case, you'll only use a normal send because your fx is mono.

When you come back the mono return will have to be connected to both L and R return inputs on the mixer, otherwise you'll have the fx only on one side.

Now, if you want to make your mono fx stereo sounding you can process it in a stereo delay before you get back in the mixer, with very short but different times, or add some pan modulation or a stereo chorus...you can have very different results, it depends on what you're after. But basically a mono signal can be splitted to more inputs and each one processed separately, becoming something much more complex.

If you only want it as is, but heard in the middle, you only have to connect 2 virtual cables from the same hardware single source. (a mono external effect will receive from one side of an analog output and go back facross one side of the hw input). You can route a mono source to as many inputs as you want.

I hope it's useful
