A16 Ultra with or without syncplate? (and alternative)

Hi. I am beginner in all this technical stuff and i would like to know few things...

Can i connect A16 ultra to scope pro card (classic plate) and use it without syncplate? I mean what will happen if i connect it and dont have syncplate?

Are there any as good alternative like A16 with same numbers of input and output ?

you don't need a syncplate. the ADAT lines can carry the clock signal.

there are many converters on the market which have ADAT connections that could also be used, but none better in the A16's price range.
