Analog input sensitivity on Plus and Classic Plates

Post by t_tangent »

Coud someone tell me what the input sensitivity is for the analog inputs on the Scope Plus and Classic plates please. I know that the Plus analog ins are balanced XLR ins and the Classic is unbalanced RCA ins, butI am just a bit confused as to why I can plug a line out from a mic or instrument into the Scope Classic ins ie unbalanced RCA in and hear the audio in the mixer, but if I do the same and plug the mic or instrument into the A16 Ultra jack I cannot hear anything on the mixer. I have the A16U connected via ADAT to the Scope Plus and connected the ADAT A module up correctly, but nothing. So I guess the analog in sensitivity on the A16 Ultra is far less than the analog ins on the Scope Plates.

If anyone could explain this clearly I would appreciate it. Thanks

Are you certain you didn't accidently mess the 2 Adats ?
I dunno if Adat 1-8 or 9-16 is upper, so for simplicity you may connect #1 and #9 each to a mixer channel - or just connect them all... ;)

On the backside of the A16U there's a sensitivity switch, but even if set to low sensitivity you'd at least hear something if you plug in a bass or a guitar.

In high sensitivity position my passive Bass even can overdrive the input section of the A16 - I have the older model, though, but probably it's not that different.

Preferably you'd only connect an active guitar or bass directly to the unit, otherwise the relatively low impedance of the input stage will damp the pickups, stealing bliss and beef from the sound. It doesn't sound completely bad, but somewhat flat and metallic.

Hi astroman,

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. Yes it seems to have been the ADAT cables were mixed up. In the Scope Manual it shows a picture of the ADAT connections on the cards which looks like so

Out B In B Whip Connector Out A In A

but actually it seems they were the other way around. Also somehow I had got ADAT B in and out mixed up. Anyway its all sorted now, thanks to your excellent powers of deduction, and also I switched ADAT A in to unbalanced via the jumper switches and the signal is much clearer now.

So now I can finally go tell the chap I bought it from that all is well and the A16 is working fine. Thanks again astroman.
