Pulsar 3 - noob problem

Post by esther »

hi everyone,

I'm deeply puzzled and _so_ thankfull for at last having found a forum like this. I hope someone can help me out.

I'm completely new to DSP-cards like for instance Creamware products. I know the basic concept but so far never had the chance to work in a DSP-supported environment. What I've heard it must be grat to have one :)

Now a friend gave me this card he got from somewhere, a pulsar with 3DSPs, along with a burnt CD including the drivers for it, labeled "Pulsar 3". He could not make it run properly on his machine so now I'm talking my chance... When running the
Pulsar -setup.exe I'm asked to enter 4 serials (I don't know exactely for what they are for). I found them on the CD . super.

Now I can use a pulsar DX driver to get sound of my machine but the ASIO drivers won't work. When launching the Pulsar .exe file (I guess it must be the main pulsar program where all the internal routing is done etc) a registration form pops up and demands a software serial I do not have. In order to get one, it sais, I will have to enter some other code and send it to the creamware support. I do not have this other code either.

What can I do to get this code? Will I have to buy a new licence?
Does it pay off to pay for it? I'm running winXP and the software looks so old i have doubts it is fully compatible with XP...

Please please pleeeeeeeeeaaaase help me!

First off you should upgrade to Scope 4.0 software - no charge from Pulsar 3 i don't think, just download and go.

Next did your friend have a log in at the Creamware site? If so ask him for the name and password of his log in. Initially this won't be of much help to you but may be handy in the long term. You will find a list of serials (keys) on his My Page but it's much easier to email Ralf at rb(at)soniccore.com (replace with the @ symbol) for an allkeys file - this file will have all the serials you have for your card. If there's anything you haven't got most likely you'll have to buy it.

i use XP with Scope 4.5 and it works fine. Scope 4.5 is a paid upgrade and adds some extra devices, but doesn't enhance the software in any way. Get 4.0 running first and decide whether you want the extras in the upgrade before shelling out any readies.

welcome esther

first of all the correct name of that card is Luna, today sold as Scope Home - and it is fully XP compatible without restrictions.
It's a bit aged, indeed - but my Pulsar 4 DSP cards are even older, think of it as of a good wine :D

that you get a sound out of the card without registration puzzles me too, but then I don't run XP... possibly the WDM driver is activated under Direct X, strange... :-?

anyway, the registration codes of the basic software are free of charge, contact Ralf Bach under rb (at) soniccore.com with the board's serial number (on the backside)
You may want to ask him about update conditions to the latest software version Scope 4.5 including the Mix & Master Bundle software.
Ralf is a very nice guy and extremely helpful and might make a special price for the software bundle... ;)

the card is indeed still a good investment due to it's converters and the high quality plugins - and you may simply add another Scope card in case you'd like more processing power. Just plug it in and connect a special card-to-card-cabel, no further installation required, the software can deal with it automatically.
Not that you need it to start, but if you like the system you have options to extend it - and most users did just that (I have 3 Pulsar cards)

but possibly (if that CD is a selfmade copy of a previous install) it might include the files containing the rgistration data.
Look for 'allkeys.skf' and 'Scope.rgy' (the latter may exist as an empty file in the install directory though)
You can open both files with a Text editor and look at the content - they are regular text files with just a different extension.

cheers, Tom

thank both of you!
your answers have brought me some insight into the matter.
I e-mailed ralph and I'm downloading the scope 4 software.
if i get it working i will start trying to use the plugins in ableton (I read that's hard to achieve but possible... :) )

well, thank you!
