This needs to be moved to "Off Topic"
Best 3 ? Hmm, off the top of my head :
Steely Dan (Fagen/Becker) - Throw Back the Little Ones
Moody Blues (Ray Thomas) - Eternity Road
Gerry Rafferty - Whatever's Written In Your Heart
Honourable mention - Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother Suite

Nat King Cole. Just love the way you can listen to his music, and also listen to the words at the same time, and they work togther very well. Oh, wait, that's fundamentally what singin's all about isn't it.. I love the old slow bigband swing tunes...

A guy called Don Walker from an "old" Australian band called Cold Chisel. I think he wrote some great stuff!!!
Bob Dylan wrote some truly inspiring stuff too, though I didn't always like the music.
Well, actually, there are loads of great lyric writers. The above two are the first that come to my mind.

Leonard Cohen
Captain Beefheart
Neil Peart
I really like the lyrics these guys come up with. Honorary mention to Kate Bush too
