noise floor for A16u?

Post by UsedManateeSalesman »

Hey, folks. Well, I've got 4 x adat running to the plus+ interface. I was surprised that when I dropped in an ADAT-A input, suddenly my noise floor went up from -infinty (logically since there was no analog input) to -74db! This is coming into the mixer from any input on the device, whether there's actually an instrument plugged into it or not. I've got the first ADAT in set to -10db since I'm plugging in synths that require that. But even if I drop to +4, the floor is still in the mid -80s

I'm a little shocked that it is so noisy. Is this normal?

thanks!
chris

edit: maybe I'm being kind of picky, since it's only noticeably noisy (ear wise) when I have everything cranked to 0db out the mains to the amp. With the control room cutting the actual amplitude to the amp, it's about normal. Still I' djust like to get some field samples from more experienced users.

I think the reason I hadn't really noticed for a while is because I've not had the master mix up to unity in a long, long time here. but the wife was out tonight, so I had to do some experiments. :D
