Is spdif (AES) sync reliable as wordclock in Pulsar ?
Is spdif (AES) sync reliable as wordclock in Pulsar ?
Hi,
I have a mytek studioclock device (what a sound to my whole system !!)
It has aes/ebu out that outputs the same clocking information that bnc wordclock outputs send but for aes/ebu connections.
I have connected using a canare 110/75 ohms transformer to Pulsar classic spdif input.
Sync and sound is solid.
I wonder though if it is the same class of sync as with using a sync plate and poulsar worclock in connection.
Regards,
Dimitrios

slight crackle prob (wordclock?
gary, if my api has the aes, how could i hook up something in cw (i have a16 ultra and syncplate) to try and get rid of a little crackle?
Cause it seems the a16 masters to scope via adat?, and connects to api via bnc cable (w/o wordclock), i'm having trouble with this

api only has sync in
no sync out on api only sync in
api no master capabiltiy
if you look at the rear side of the api A2D, it only has bnc sync in, .. 1way spdif (which is out), aes (not sure, only one, probablyout), so i know that api must be slaved, but if my a16 is master via adat to scope, how does my api sync up because it doesnt have adat only bnc....i will rent a wordclock, but they are such a ripoff to buy
or if you really want, try slaving the a16 to scope and then sending wordclock via bnc from the a16 to the api.
the earleir method of making the api master is probably easier, but....
just make sure that you use the proper cable if using aes or bnc. it must be a digital cable if aes or sp/dif, it can't be a mic cable or other audio cable. aes are 110ohm, sp/dif are 75ohm and wordclock is 75ohm. not using the right cable will make noise from a light distortion to hardcore crackles.

bnc
thankx, one of the probs i had was that when i connect wordclock out of the a16 to the sync in of the api , only silence, ...(i thot that was because i don't have a wordclock, but what your saying is the a16 does so i can use the out of the wordclock even tho i don't have an external wordclock, but i still get silence.
i think the confusion with scope comes in is because sync is with a16 and scope via adat, not one wordclock hub for all, ...

With a CW sync plate installed, Scope will send out wordclock via the plate's BNC out while Scope is slaved to another external devices' clock via adat. This is proven to work very well & should work in most situations. In other words, while your master Scope card is slaved to your external AD converter (A16 in your case), it will also pass wordclock sync to it's spdif, adat & BNC outs & should sync several devices without a problem.
did work
[quote="garyb"]if it's a digital device it has an internal clock. sp/dif or aes out will carry sync.[/quots
seems no minor crackles happening, i have the a16 on adat and scope slaved with api coming in spdif, ...so is the api master in this scenario and if the sync is coming in spdif , and opt is adat, how is it picking up spdif sync?
