MIDI Controlled Lights

Post by dawman »

I have been using hardware sequencers to control my vocalists FX, and lights for 20 + years. Back in 1984 I used my lexicon PCM70, but it's MIDI preset change took seconds to switch. So I opted for the dirt cheap crusty sounding Alesis MIDI FX tabletop box. This with my JL Cooper MLC1 gave me the ability to store scenes and control the dimmer packs and specials with MIDI. While many people were in awe back then, this is no big deal anymore. But I am now faced with motorized laser lights, and I really need some help on finding some information on the USB / MIDI control of these beasts. I will only be able to afford to pay two guys to unload, hook up and run the stage rig. The FOH guy will run SFP Mixers and sequencer, while the LD guy will run the Trooper spotlight and hook up all relevant dimmers and such. But we will be going into rooms which have lasers and all sorts of shit I am not use to. So I am hoping that someone here knows a lighting director or has experience with these dance room lights and programming. I am willing to discuss and pay for any relevant assisitance in this matter. My knowledge in automation is limited to setting up ACL's in groups of 4, and shooting them up in 67.5 degree angles through fog and such, plus the dimming of specials and scene washing. Any takers??
