I'm not sure if this is a problem solving issue but it may or may not become a problem.

As you may have read elsewhere I've upgraded my PC and taken the opportunity to have a nice clean install of all my applications, files etc.

I did a clean 3.1c install from disk and being the sad person that I am decided to compare the files against my original 3.1c.

I seem to have a few files in the old one that aren't in the new full install.
I'm not sure what they are, what they are for or whether I need them so if anyone can shed any light on these files I'd be grateful. None of the files below were on my clean 3.1c installation disk and I suppose they could be redundant files from previous versions (2.0 etc). So I'd be grateful if anyone is sad enough to shed a bit of light on this for me:

Some of the files may only be needed for win98 - I don't know - this is pure guessing.

Apart from that, it looks like you have forgotten to install on or two effect packages. Check your registry. Are all your keys installed?

The only non-XTC plugin listed is Decimator M.dev. All the pep & dsp files are quite possibly installed with 3rd party plugins and/or older versions of creamware plugins.

I also might suggest u do a 4.0 install alongside with your new system & give it a shot (unless you've already confirmed a problem with it's driver that's causing you to downgrade to 3.1c).

Thanks I checked the registry against my allkeys file. It's okay. I suspect they're 2.04 files or 3rd party bits. I was just a bit concerned that I may be missing something on the install disk.

Thanks Valis:
To understand you properly then, should I move the decimator m.dev file into my working SFP folder?
And I suppose I can delete the remaining files because I don't use XTC mode anyway?

Re 4.0 - I haven't installed that yet. Need to email Ralf for an authorisation I think, but I do have the zip file ready to roll.
I wanted to make sure that my 3.1c was stable on the new pc first.

If you don't use XTC mode, you can indeed safely delete the DevicesXTC folder, I would leave the other ones in place. Won't harm, and it's not like they fill up your drive...

I'm sure you could just move the Decimator M file over, but are you sure there isn't one already somewhere in your installation?

No there isn't one in the actual installation thanks Valis.
The files that I've listed above are ones that were on my old pc (various scope upgrades over the years) but are not in the full installation from disk/zip.

They're the rogue ones that I wondered whether they should be there.

Interesting.
Curiouser and Curiouser said Alice

These files ARE in the full installation - they're just hidden files.
