I currently have 2xPulsar Projects + 1xScope Home cards.
I have also got an old pulsar one card lying around. As you can only run three, would the old pulsar with 4
dsps be better than the 3 dsp Home card (as logic would dictate). Or because the Home card is newer, is it actually better?

Scope Home vs Original Pulsar
that's hard to say...
i doubt that one dsp will make the difference, so i/o is one consideration(maybe one card's i/o would be more useful than the other's).
another thing that might be worth thinking about is that the newer card's pci useage is more efficient, although considering that it's the third card in the chain means that probably won't matter much either...
tough call.
i'd go with the extra dsp and choose the pulsar1. in the ultraslim chance that you simply must have just a little more pci bandwidth(like you need more than 9 or so masterverbs), you can put in the scope home.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I thought it might be a case of splitting hairs.
I actually tried both set-ups out, and could not see any difference in the usage meter.
I/O isn't a concern as I have a ADA8000.
I think I might stick with the Home card, as it is a valid point about the PCI bandwidth. There is about 5 years difference in development of the cards, so something must have improved.
I might put my Pulsar One card in my old P500 box, for that '98 retro look.

The DSPs on board are the same but the layout of the board is different.
The Scope home has ULLI (until 3ms delay), the Pulsar1 has not...
If U use Pulsar1 as DSP addiction, you gain 1 DSP compared to Scope home, but don't use it for audio IN/OUT because this means higher delay values in your ASIO or driver settings. Think your Scope1 as only DSP card without IN/OUT... (midi are ok)
Cheers.

yes, data is exchanged via the s/tdm bus, the PCI is more or less just powersupply and card initialisation/control.
I'd also agree that it's a tough question, as in mixed setups both card have been reported (occasionally) to make some (software) trouble.
It's probably very application dependant.
cheers, Tom
