I just saw Bosones thread about his new music PC. Even his "old" PC is way bejond my "fast" PC (which I only started using again a few days ago, because I've been too lazy to set it up earlyer after I moved (in November) and I have not made that much music).

My "fast" PC has:
Asus Tusl2-c (Intel 815)
Celeron Tualatin 1@1.3GHz
512MB RAM
Scope SRB with classic I/O plate
Luna
Windows XP (NLite installation)

My old PC has:
AOpen something (VIA Apollo 133 - the old chopset (yes, it is a typo, but it is a funny one) of Horror for PulsarianZ)
P3 533@400MHz (yes down-cloked = no fan)
386MB RAM
Pulsar2 with no I/O plate (guess, where that one went )
Pulsar(1)
PowerSampler
Running Windows XP most of the time

That old PC actually came very much to life, after I put the newer cards in it. With just the P1, I only had one working masterverb. With all those cards in it, I have 4 or 5 MVs without crackles (more with crackles - but that is useless).

I guess, I am just saying, that working on old PCs with CW(A) cards is still possible  ... if you run smaller projects. 1 instance of VDAT seamed to cause no problems. And! Having new cards in the set-up can make a huge difference!

I am not saying, that Bosone does things wrong. He probably even makes more music, than I do  The only link to his thread is, that it was my inspiration.

I have the same motherboard with a slightly faster CPU and more RAM, also a type 1 card. It works great butI have to be careful when I want to use Ambience reverb. I can't use VST instruments when using that. I need a different setup for mixing.

Sometimes, all we need to do to work in peace, is to forget that there are out there, so many new technologies we could have, and spend more time composing and FEELING emotions.

Today there are so many VST and other related atractive software instruments and FXs, that many are just forgetting almost completely about music, and are transforming, slowly and without realising it, into VST consumers, instead of musicians.

Careful so... music is not a supermarket...
