This is the place where I learn about computers and commit social suicide by asking stupid questions, and having to show my name. I hook up my offline boxes for a short brief period, and pray that this stuff doesn't infect my boxes. I'm afraid when I first started playing with computers was during Pro Tools mixdowns at a session, and on breaks we would clear our heads by looking at marvelous women. This made me try it at home when I started rehersing with Scope for the first time. When frustrated, I would go to Petracentral ( A real babe who I met when our band played the NASCAR races here, and at the National Auto show )and forget the MIDI/DAW blues for awhile. I've been gone awhile and now that I'm home, there are hundreds of disgusting sexually explicit crap sent to me in emails. Alot of weird shit that I can't seem to shake off with deleting cookies. Anyone know what I can do to have this stop?

Embarrisingly Yours,

Jimmy V.

you might want to try adaware.. but now that your e-mail address is out in the wild.. you may have to revert to trying to get your e-mial software to "learn" the spam mails.

I've been pretty careful but after having the same address for 4-5 years, I've started to get all sorts of crap too. It seems like there's very litte to stop your e-mail address from being abused once it starts. My spam collector gets about 20 or so a day..

Spam caused me to change my e-mail address, too. I have still access to my old box and I check it once a day - 40 or sometimes 60 spam mails a day (70% stopped by the box spam filter). They seem to be more clever everyday: vaigra is vaigra, v|@gra v i a g r a or even /|@g r @. So my suggestion is to get used to it or to change your address leaving the automatic reply at the old one with a text saying you changed your e-mail box due to spam and suggesting to call you for a new one.

Try also Spybot and AdAware at the same time.

once they have you address, they'll continue to spam you. use your spam filter, use webmail instead of outlook express and beware of giving out your email address to any website except for nessessary business. by all means don't give out your address to anyplace that might be emabarrassing if it's part of a spam list....if you've somehow accidentally "opted in", you can try unsubscribing. sometimes, unsubscribing just verifies that it's a good address, so.....you could use a yahoo or hotmail address for your shadier actions.....

on a better note, your box ships out thurs....

heres my tips for avoiding this situation:

Use one email adress for business, one for friends and family and one for everything else. its easy to set up, in example you could use multiple gmail accounts set up in the Thunderbird email client.

now heres another tip. if you need to register an email at a site, and you dont really want to give them your real mail adress, use "dodgeit" . Read all abput it at http://www.dodgeit.com

I just purchased spyware, and error gaurd. I think I will change email address now that I've read these replies. Thanks gents. When I hook up boxes, they will each have their own email address too. So glad I didn't have to post this in G.Diss.,or Tips, and Prob. forum.I think J.Cooper was smart in the way he set up our forum.Happy New Year mates.

Definetely, using different accounts is a good idea, this is what I do myself, and it is efficient. I've got a mail for most things public, and then some others for special purposes like family.

Acronis Privacy Expert Suite is a GREAT software you can trust, it does everything related to blocking and cleaning, and it cleans like few does. They are constantly upgrading the warms and other spy stuff that is comming out by the minute. You may get up to three upgrades per day, and no less than one every two days.

The times of being without spyware, firewall and antivirus are over... and if they are not, your PC will be over.

Spybot is fantastic with its inmunize system, this is great, as it closes many open doors and proceses that are there ready to be exploted. Highly recomended.

Another suite which is great is Zone Alarm Security Suite. It is even more powerful, as it has a very good and reliablt firewall, antivirus, antispyware, ID lock, IM security, a special feature for live email protection which is very effective, high levels of privacy, and some special features which allows you to custumise which webs can be accest etc., etc., etc., fantastic and cheap.

There is also Eudora, which is something similar to Outlook, but more complex, and there is some plugins you have to get from third party which block undesired mails, quite convinient. The problem is Eudora that is unecesarily complex.

Not putting your email adress on forums helps to avoid spam. If someone wants to email for the first time, they can go via a private message. This takes an extra day to get through, but hides my email adress for webcrawlers.

My provider filters out 95% of the spam I would receive otherwise, and scans the rest for virusses. A couple a week get through their filter, those are left to spam filter in the email reader.

Since last summer. finally, the internet looks spam and ad free from here, without any anti-virus or -spyware software: Gave a friend 50 for his old pc when he ordered a new one, and now it runs Debian as remote controlled server keeping the other machines from the web.

Hope you find your way too,

at0m.
