I've been unhappy with Absynth for a long time and have been looking for a replacement, so yesterday download the Reaktor 5 demo.
I'm very impressed. Devices like Steampipe and Spacedrone are immediately creating ambient soundscapes far beyond Absynth.
Now I'm thinking of selling Absynth and getting Reaktor.
I'm very interested in hearing anything about what others on the Z are doing with Reaktor ...
Reaktor #1 for ambient scapes ?
I've also tried it. I was very impressed by the Steampipe and the Formantor (I don't know if it's the right name) but the thing that most impressed me was the possibility to work at atom level. So you can make new filters and so on.
But I've also realized that now and for me it is too "thecnically" and too few "musically" oriented. For how I make music I need to focus myself more on the "play that instrument well" side than the "make that instrument well" side.
For sure if the impressive power that it gives will be used by someone else, more technical than me, and if he will share its works, I'll have got both the benefits.
So for how do I work now, ModIII+Flexor is enought and for this reason I've un-istalled Reaktor.
that's my experience

Hi Richard,
I can recommend you to the actual Reaktor5.1
without any doubts.
I use it alot at our sphericlounge live concerts. Most times I use it for spherical atmospheres in the background because they play for itself with a large-scale of movement. Space Drone, 4 dex, now a personal bpm based 8 deck, travelizer allows you to travel with your mouse through a sample (granular) etc.
Also I´ve started to create my own instruments or effects, it is not so hard once you got into it. I really like the open way to design the gui of Reaktor ensembles.
From Reaktor 5 on, you are able to get to a very low level of an instrument, the core cells.
You can build your personal filters, for example or whatever. But this level is a bit too deep for me, up to now.
You can build your personal instruments with the use of precast makros instead and easy.
When you won´t have another modular system to build your own instruments, there is also the
Reaktor Session, only a host to run Reaktor ensembles without the possibility to create own instruments.
With the buy of Reaktor you have access to the online library of the Reaktor community, full of synths, samplers, sound generators, etc. Very interesting stuff and much for the spherical stuff you are after.
I don´t know how many NI programs you have but maybe it is worth to look at the Komplete offer, runs out this year, maybe it is more profitable for you to get this one instead of buying the Reaktor alone.
I am happy with my Komplete deal, as Nestor said.
Feel free to ask me for more details about Reaktor any time.
Good luck and Happy Christmas...
