Hya ppl
ot myself a shiney new p-4 3.0 with an ASUS P5GDC Deluxe + 1 GB DDR and 2 80GB SATA and I gotta tell you that baby's F.A.S.T !
but alas nothing in life comes without a cost...my new baby freezes. That bad boy simply stops working whenever it feels like. It can be during a session, a DV burn or even doing nothig, I move the mouse...nothing, I click the keyboard...nothing, the screen just freezes.
I ruled out memory problems (ran 3 consecutive memtests and they came out ok), CPU heat (temp doesnt rise above 55 c) no viruses (no internet duh) and I'm absolutely bummed out.
Anyone know this problem?
Thanks
Help :(

does the USB drive draw it's power from the USB bus ?
I just can't remember it, but a couple of month ago I (might have) read something about (electrical) flaws in USB implementatians on (some) modern mobos... very faint memory, tho.
regarding the temperature - the CPU will throttle down anyway if it starts to overheat (at least in my humble understanding), so it's not the absolute peak that's relevant in this context, but the difference between sourrounding air and the cooler.
It's that difference that makes the heat 'move away' from the CPU.
Don't underestimate a few degrees that the room temperature (!) changes.
Now that winter has started, room temperature dropped a bit, but both my fanless PSU and the CPU cooler reflect this effect much more intense than one would expect.
I guess it's at least a 1 to 5 ratio.
cheers, tom
