Reading a previous post from mine (privacy violations) you can get an idea about the kind of events I’m talking about.
I’m even disposed to state clearly if anyone should be interested.
These events are added to a general situation sickening me as much, so I feel the need of talking about this situation. I’m sorry for “blogging” a bit this context; I’ll just hope you’ll understand that national pride and mind opening of the most of people around me should make this an hard ranting to be done in this words.
Why the shame of being Italian?
Couldn’t I be disgusted living in a country having the national debt my country has, and watching THREE Italian ships running the America’s cup?
Now leaders of the majority coalition are talking about economic recovery showing data of +0.7% related to gross domestic product, but it’s evident to common people in what pockets that money is going around.
Another argument is Messina’s Straits’ bridge. A clear example of wrong (or corrupted?) way of public funds employment.
The above mentioned work should have the magic power of revitalizing the region economy through the expansion of commercial communication opportunity.
Who had the “luck” of coming in Sicily by train, knows that the main city here and in Calabria are connected for long parts by a single track, badly laid railroad, and the most of the carriage pool in these countries dates from later ’70.
Well. The main shareholder of this project is the national railway company and this 6 milliards euros project do not include modernization of the railway! This is as shame. Ragamuffin trains here in comparison with the rest of the Europe, but a bridge fit for the richest countries of the world.
Even from the architectural point of view the project is out of context: 380m high piers besides 1 of 2 floors little houses. The slenderest of the three Sicily’s corners disemboweled by that pier and related road/railway links…
In this month the contract by tender was signed by Impregiro. The rescission penalty amount is almost the whole cost of the work.
Some days after the contract was signed, the UE announced the suspension of its contribution because no environmental impact report was presented.
The project most probably will never start, cause strongly opposed by environmentalists and resident people; and, above all, by the political coalition that seems to be favourite for the government elections on next spring.
But the money is already in already full pockets. And this is also a VERY BIG shame! A legally perpetrated crime.
I took part in some demonstration, till this summer, but now I’m really confused: obstructing the work now could result in a big gift for Impregiro and its recipients. Do not obstructing it could result in seeing a place ruined by a work which probably will be completed in the next century perhaps (is the way the things go here), or never.
