hey

what would be the optimal configuration and SFP4.0 project to work "properly" on Logic 5.5.1, for some reason, im having a LOT of ASIO errors (the audio engine was not able to process blahblah) and that, by just modestly using not more than 5 vsti's and some vst and logic audio effects, i remember having used a LOT more a while ago when i was on luna 3.1x and a less powerfull pc configuration, something went really wrong here. I have 2gb PC3200 ram and a P4 2.8ghz, winxp sp2, im functionning in regular windows/classic mode and not using any fancy enhancements, have the antivirus off and so on.. also, i have tried giving different priority modes to the sfp.exe and logic.exe thru the task manager, no really success. I have noticed when i quit Logic and then start it up again with the same song, the playback goes "fine" to the end without ASIO errors , then a litle bit late it gets "used" and reaches a certain point when its just impossible to continue making music ;-(
so there is something wrong, any suggestions?

lol

according to the "response", looks like there is no of such 'optimal configuration' to run Logic and Scope properly on win xp

I use "below normal" priority for SFP4 and "above normal" or "high" for Logic, with ASIO latency at 7ms.

Also about the VSTi part, I don't think it's as much a function of how many of them you load, but which ones. Some of them eat a hell of a lot of CPU (Albino2, MiniMonsta, the other ones doing oversampling etc,) which might prevent the ASIO buffer from being serviced in time. Try raising the ASIO latency to the max (25ms @ 44.1) and see if it works well. If it does, trying lowering it one tick at a time, and test things thoroughly.

i have already tried giving various priority levels, no really success. I have noticed when i touch a volume fader, or press any button in logic audio interface (while the playback is running) i get immediate asio error from logic and everything stops, and as i have told before, on my previous configuration (AMD cpu based) i didnt have such annoyances unless i have heavily loaded a lot of tracks using vsti's + effects applied on them. so, there is something not right

Mm only things I can think of would be to check PCI latency, and install Intel chipset drivers if you haven't done so already.

you mean by using that small application allowing to change the pci latency? have already done that, it gave weirdest results here, so i left the setting on default.

i have just installed intel chipset drivers, still no success.. just right now i have logic project with just 4 tracks, all vsti's its just no longer possible to even listen to the playback, and of course when i touch something , resize the window or click a button in logic it stopps immediatlly. i have the latency ulli set to 18ms and have tried other combinations. i really dont understand. once again; as i have mentionned previously, this has never happened before.. even on luna 3.1 and now guess what, i cant even play or work on my old "heavy" logic songs... i think i will endup either by trashing this motherboard and cpu (P4C800-E asus + p4 2. or rolling back on luna 3.1 ...

Logic is finicky on PC 5.51 about having more than 1Gb of ram. I think the bugs for this have been tracked down to specific tools, you can check the sonikmatter forums or yahoo groups LUG group for the archives on this.

I'm sure you've run PlgEnabler2a.exe to detect your faulty directx plugins, are you perhaps using some new vsti's that could be causing bugs in Logic? Plugins are being tested less & less with LAP 5.51 these days...

It might be worthwhile to discuss what your IRQ situation is like, and what graphics card you have with your new system. Many SX owners complained about similar issues (especially in regards to UI interactions) and modern Radeon cards have often been found to be the worst offenders. Hence the DoubleDawg application gaining favor in Creamware-land.
