trouble is back

Hi

My dsp-load is 50%
one sts-4000 sampler
one stm2448 mixer with several fx/devices

I get an enormous high sound when I play a song in cubase.First I get the communication error and after that the dsp overload error.

One of the two project cards is sharing with a sm-bus controller.
I know it's not done to share anything but I moved the pci card so much last half year that I want to try irq steering.I read some topics about this but i can't get it to work. It doesn't assign anything..

about the sm-buscontroller again..
Is it normal that these things don't need a driver?I installed one from the intel(d865perl) cd because i had a questionmark in the device manager but after installing I looked in properties and it said it doesn't have any drivers.(no questionmark anymore btw)
Strange...

sounds like a bad install. what steps did you take to change the mobo?

ehm I didn't install the mobo myself.I did install the sfp by myself.I formatted the harddisk and installed only cubase and SFP.
After I typed the previous post I changed the card to other slots so that they don't share an irq. Still errors..What steps can I take?

I'm workin in normal sfp mode. Most of the time the dsp's won't even load. So it's hard to find the source. I'm going to try just one board instead of two. Maybe it's defect (?)

well, I got rid of the errors and the high sound just by starting from scratch instead of loading an old song file. The only problem now that's left is: Most of the time my dsp's just won't load at the startup.Rebooting doesn't help.When I shutdown my computer and restart again they sometimes do load. Anyone got a clue?

btw: How do you connect a stdm cable?Does it matter where the red line is head to? No idea if this is the case but I was just wondering..

do you know how many times I reinstalled it?

Everything seems to be in order.

- Pci-placement is fine
- stdm cable(s) connected
- No irq sharing
- Disabled everything in the bios what I dont need.
- No background things in xp.Just cubase and sfp installed.

The crazy part is, IF the dsp loads it works so well!

edit/ by dsp load i mean: When sfp starts up, you see lots of zero's in the dspload menu. You can load whatever you want but it stays at zero..

I get high sounds when I load the Creamware graphic EQ in while audio plays.
Some plugins just cut audio off until they're active.I know it's bad practice but I guess it's probably related to cards communication with MOBO.

the mobo is an Intel d865perl.It works great. Maybe it's because I've an 'old' pulsar 2 and a new project card? I inserted the lines in the cset.ini btw..

maybe with all the handling you have dirty connectors. they must REALLY be clean to work properly, a small amount of oil from your skin could make trouble. try cleaning the contacts with 99% or purer alcohol(don't use rubbing alcohol it has too much water in it and it'll leave a film) and see if that helps.

Regarding the SMbus driver - did you run the Intel INF chipset utility? This installs the correct drivers for your mobo's system devices.

yes, I've done that already. I installed the drivers, but in the device manager it says it's working correctly altough he also is saying that there are no drivers installed. I can click the 'solve problem'(or something like that) button and then I get a menu which says that there are no newer versions then the driver that is installed on your system.
Since I don't know exactly what this sm-buscontroller does i'm unsure wether this is the source of my scope problem.

run the driver install again! it should not look like that. you system is not setup or installed properly at this point! the order that you do these things can be important for correct operation......

Well, I installed it again and again but with no result.Gary, you have the d865perl, If you right-click on the smbus-controller at the irq on connection page, and then click on properties,does it say that there are drivers installed for it?

no driver, yet the driver is shown on the driver page. i'd say that yours is normal uf you see no exclamation points or no question marks in the device manager.....

Maybe you should check whether your pulsar card is hanging in it's pci slot correctly.
I've discovered this with my own card. Because the thing is firmly large and heavy.
Just take it out of the pci slot and put it back in and try to feel if the screw isn't pulling the card out again.

I't just a thought.
