Newbi routing on Scope 4.0

Hi everyone,

Thank god I found a forum for Creamwear users, well actualy thanks to Planet Z! Aim a complet newbi to the computer recording world, so kind of lost and would be most thankful for all your help.

I have just finished building what will be my home recording studio with the following:

-Dell Optiplex270 PC with OS XP service pack 2. (onboard soundcard disactivated)
- Alesis M1 active MkII monitors.
- Creamwear LunaII/Electra (Scope Home) soundcard with Scope 4.0
- Yamaha MG12/4 mixer.

- Cubase SE
- Reason 2.5
- T.C.Electronics M1XL rack.
- Behringer Ultra DI box.
- OLP guitar.
- Behringer B1 mic.

I think with this setup, I should be able to record something worth the money, but here comes my problems.

-First problem:
I get sound from my monitors and all that, Reson 2.5 works good, recording a audio track on Cubase SE Is ok, but when I record a second audio track on Cubase SE, It records the first track as well!

-Second problem:
If I use audio track monitoring on Cubase SE In realtime, I get a feedback loop with delay! This also happens when using audio effects like distortion In realtime with Cubase SE. It also happend when trying Guitar Rig demo. If I disconect Input output cables from my Luna card, It also happens.

In my humble opinion, I think all this Is a routing problem In the Scope platform. The feedback loop could be from a ground loop from what I read on this forum.

Aim very excited about my new equipment as Its a dream come true for me, but very frustreded with the above Issues. My creativity gose nul I hope I have giving enough Info for you all, and hope someone could help. Thank you for your atention everyone and good music making all!

problem one reads as if you've setup several channels all armed to record though you actually do it in single steps. To keep the content of track #1 you have to disarm it in Cubase.

the routing problem seems to be with the monitor setup. It's generally preferred on SFP to disable 'direct monitoring' in the sequencer, but instead use the SFP mixer's output.
Look at Cubase as a big tape recorder and SFP as your main mixer, then it becomes more obvious.
The basic setup may look a bit complicated at first, but you'll quickly get behind this.
Anything you want to monitor from Cubase is sent to SFP via an ASIO channel (add 'dummy' channels or use busses if necessary).
The same applies vice versa: the stuff to be recorded from SFP synths is sent via an ASIO channel to a Cubase track.

You probably know this basic structure, but it's easy to build a true feedback loop by accident. Check each route of your signals under the condition that it only occurs in one direction.

Thank you very much Tom for your promt reply. I will try this. I don´t know what you mean by disarming, but will give It a try. Any link to a basic mixer setup for PC? you know, mixing for dummys... Again thanks Tom.
