is it just easier to use xtc for effect plugins?

Hi guys -

having a gr8 time now I'm using scope thru proper environment, routing etc, 1 question, I have an audio track in logic which i wanna run psy q on, so i send to the stm1632 on separate outputs from logic, process, but then where? I want to record the processed sound in a nice 24bit way, and prefereably with the rest of my track when i bounce in logic. Is there a way?

All i can see at the moment is sending the track to one of logics inputs, and recording the sound that way, which is 16 bit... (by the way when i hit 20/24 bit recording in logic's asio driver ting it says this)

is this the only way to do it? apart from the bit depth reduction i guess this method is ok, but nowhere near as easy as doing it xtc mode and just chucking the psyq on the track in logic...Thing is I'd really rather do it in the proper scope mode as this is DEFINITELY where i'll be running all my scope synths..

thanks in advance

Andrew

I'd say recording straight in Logic is the best and fast way. The other alternatives involve using other software for recording, or the STS sampling, which means you'd have to save/export from the recording program (or STS) and import and sync the audio in Logic. If you record straight in it instead, no need to import, and you'll only have minimal correction to make to sync your recording to the rest. In fact, in this case, you can keep the unprocessed track in Logic and use it to sync back the processed recording (which will lag a bit due to ASIO buffers etc) perfectly.

I've found all other ways to be too tedious, and now my default Logic/SFP setup includes a few tracks ready for recording (usually STM mix out + busses.) It takes more time than bouncing directly in Logic, but personally I prefer to monitor processing/recording to make sure it's alright, so listening at recording time actually saves me time (bouncing time + listening to the whole clip afterwards vs realtime record and listen.)

This also lets me test how well the recording /processing sounds with the rest of the track while the recording happens, if I need/want to. Also pretty useful when recording instruments synths, you can record and/or track dry and/or effected signal fairly trivially.

BTW, there are 24 bit ASIO modules that will let you record and playback in 24 bit with Logic just fine.

thanks very much symbiote, I'll get another asio module on it soon, let u know how i go. I started doing some work on my new tune with xtc mode last night -am gonna bounce that into a new mix to play out tomorrow morning.. next week i'll get back into the scope and record in logic. cheers
