Hi!

I have connected ADAT pulsar I+SRB with A16 (not ultra)

then i'm working, my A16 is CLICKING in all 16 OUT's and nosound for 1-3 sec. and sound is back again..

i have tested the Pulsar's CARD outputs, it's working good, no clicks...

may it be the optical cabels problem?
or something else?

thank you

what output cables do you use ?
They MUST be balanced as the output stages cannot compensate a short circuit.
Your description reads in fact more like a sync problem, but I thought I'd mention this just in case - there have been damages reported by using the wrong cables on the old A16's outs.

Really sounds like a clock problem to me.

I will say again that I use unbalanced cables on my A16 outputs with no difficulties.

But your problem sounds like a sync issue.

So, check the lightpipes and make sure they are free of dust, (can of air is a good thing, give 'em a blast as well as the input and output terminals).

Have you tried A16 as master scope as slave?

plugged in only half way possibly ?

a full plugged mono-cable WILL put an unpredictable load on the outs.

I don't have the exact details, but one shouldn't imagine this as a speaker driver that gets too much power.
There could be a current flow between the external device and the A16, if the ground potential between the two units is different - and that current can be fairly hot...

I changed MASTER clock to the A16 and in pulsar i set SLAVE (sync Source ADAT A or B)

after that, its no sound in outputs

in the mixer i can see the input sound from A16 inputs, but no output sound

strange thing..
i have WAVELAB running with WAVE source 24
and SONAR with ASIO2..
if WAVELAB playing any wave file and i playing the virtual guitarist (IN SONAR), all programs working fine, no clicks everything is fine..
but if i'm stopping the WAVE file in WAVELAB,
then A16 is clicking and disabling sound for 1-3 sec. (but Pulsar Card outputs, still working good)
Even, in SFP program, i'm NOT routing the WAVE Source 24 (no to the mixer or something else), if WAVELAB playing, all stuff is working good...

?? do i need to connect ADAT cables?!!
(just kidding  )

of course i have connected all cables..
even i can say more, that first 8 outs of A16 - working with clicks, but channels from 9-16 - they are working good..
i tried to switch ADAT cabels too, from channel A to channel B.. (1-8, 9-16)

i also switched IN with OUT ADAT cables..
i think, that the problem is in A16..
first 8 out's damaged.. or something wrong with ADAT input...
very very bad day..

what do you think, if i need to buy a new A16, maybe better to buy some Digital Mixer?
like Yamaha 01v 96?
and connect it to ADAT of pulsar's card?

well, if it's bad it can be fixed......
i don't see an advantage to a digital mixer. i'd rather spend the money on the ad/da conversion. the a16 is a good piece of hardware, bad luck if it's got a problem...

the sync settings on the a16 while simple, confused me the first time i saw it, but it seems like you are on top of your game. the a16 ultra is a good device if you're looking to replace yours. if you're on a budget, the behringer ad-8000 is about $200us for 8 channels with mic pres and presonus makes the digimax 8 channels w/mic pres for $8-1200us...

sorry, i couldn't offer anything better.

i'd pick the ultra over the motu, but that's pretty subjective....

If you wanna buy a digital mixer the studio I work for has one for sale, a Yamaha O2R with the ADAT convertor installed.
