Hi all,

Well I am getting that itch again  I am considering a purchase of the pro ph@t, I did demo the phophet plus a few months back and vaguely remember the detail of the sound, but I am wondering, is it worth it to have this synth if I own the Pro One? I mean they are pretty similar. I have NI's pro 52 and it has some really fat and fuzzy sounds, but no where near does it stand up to a CW emu.

I have to be honest I was not in the mood to buy a new synth but, last night I was watching VH1 bands reunited and they showcased "Berlin" of course out comes the prophets in all there wooden glory, they had a Pro One & Prophet 5 on stage with them and well they were mint condition and when they started jammin a little it just brought out that feeling of, I want one

Since I have the Pro One already, maybe I should invest in a Pro Phat but ya think these sound to much alike? I wonder since my NI emu to me has a similar 5 sound on some presets but is much more when ya start making yer own presets, the thing makes killer bass lines, not sure if the phat version is capable, any opinions?

Cheers!

Well you can forget Pro53, i tried it the demo against my Prophet Standard and it doesn't come close to sounding as good. i also own Zarg's Pro One SOLO and updated to CW's Pro One and the Prophet does not really sound like a Pro One (even if you make Pro One polyphonic).

Yes there's a certain SCI sound, but they do sound different enough for me and with the Prophet you can also stack the polyphony in Unison mode for even huger bass sounds. i've even done some presets for both, some based on the same patch but sounding completely different.

i am also considering buying the new Proph@t (i wish it wouldn't automatically assume it's an email address!) even though i have Prophet Standard as i think the extras look really nice.

i'm sure most people will tell you to go for Solaris, and whilst this is a killer synth, for the simplicity of the Prophets etc is what i like, i know i would just end up using the presets on Solaris as there are too many knobs (and you don't normally hear people complaining about too many features but i'm one of them!). But that's just me. Simple.

Just curious also,

Is the ph@t the same as the plus? the new synth has a 3 stage filter where the plus does not, same synth basically or is there structural changes in the wiring aswell?

Cheers!

Heh I am similar in nature, for me though, I was a analog collector, I loved finding mint condition old synth to add to my studio, but as time goes on I recentlyu started selling off my synths and am replacing alot of stuff with VA's and DSP synths, less wires, less head aches not to mention having to repair old synths with hard to find parts.

My only other thing thats driving a wedge between me and the pro phat is the idea is Six String, but these are 2 totally different beasts.

I just got the Six String and it is an amazing synth !

When it was released I think it got a pretty luke-warm response, but I can assure you it's incredible.

But now I'm thinking I'd like the Pro-One or Prophet

I wish Wine Country & CWA would just work out the fine print and make a deal.

I looked at wine countrys pick and it does not show the stage on the main page, yet the phat does, either way, its all good

Well, if you've already got the Pro-One, my advice is to spring for the best and get Solaris. The Proph@t doesn't have much that the Pro-One doesn't have, but Solaris gives you everything! Also a good expansion pack is the Red Dwarf module set; this will give you multiple Prophet filters and oscillators, up to four osc's and four filters (plus other modules too). How can you beat that?

Solaris is pretty straightfoward and easy to use IMO, and it also now has a manual, so you can get it up and running in no time.

Have fun,

Hi All,

I just found out about this posting. I'd like to clarify some things:

The Proph@t Plus is the same internally as the previous Prophet Plus, except I changed the MVC 'atom', which now allows for the added Low Note/Last Note priority and Legato Mode, so it has these 2 small parameter additions.

More important to me is the change in how one accesses the surfaces; the new version uses the 'paging' system for the 3 surfaces, while the older version has popup surfaces instead.

Both have the 3 filters - the picture on the Wine Country Website is quite out-of-date.

I have to say (and it seems rather strange), but the Prophet synths do seem to be 'different' to me, compared to the Pro One, even though they have basically the same 'atoms' inside. When we were doing the presets for all of these in the beginning, certain sounds just seem to be more easily reached with the Prophet layout...really interesting to me. Of course, there are actual parameter differences between the Pro One and Prophet design - in the modulation paths, and the inclusion of sample playback oscs, and also with the P Plus's 3 filters now, among many other things.

As for the Pro One and Pro 1 Solo - these may also be made available for a limited time, while CW and WC work things out. If you are interested, please send me an email.

I agree completely! I bought both with
the Sequential survival kit a couple of
years ago(wish I updated from that old
preset thingy). I use 'em all the time.
I like the Pro one for basses & the Prophet for...well...everything!
