Hello again,

i got some new infos by calling CW again

1. the SDK will be probably released during may. Frank is in the US atm so they have to wait for.
2. The lack of support results out of having only one person for the world wide support atm. They cannot afford it to employ another one. Ralf Bach, the support manager is overwhelmed with emails, phonecalls etc. He has about 1500 emails in the inbox waiting for a reply. So be patient, he'll try to reply as fast as he can (even until late at night in private time he is writing answers).
3. The VDAT Update to VDAT 2 will be available the next time and will be free for owners.

Thats all for now

well... VDAT is improved in case of channels and so on.. i got no exact infos yet for it.. we shall wait for it tho

Ralf is really under heavy stress... poor dude  But actually CW cannot afford anyone.. and if they employ "new" workers they will take the old ones fired due the insolvency first.. thats usual in germany for a good company

originally posted by Neutron- but i would also like to know the answer to this being a payed DP owner myself:
"Since i have a few ideas now for new devices and want to start creating again I am wondering how this is going to work NDA(free)DP VS
people who spent $$$ on DP,

Can freeNDA DP users release free devices? or are they strictly for personal use.

If so will free devices be "open" so others can change them or at least as an option to the creator.

what happens if someone uses Free DP to create work which they give a payed DP owner to release commercially.
(for example say there is a "group" of free DP creaters and one person in the group who payed. can the devices be released through the payed creator)

will payed DP owners be relegated to the same status as the people who got it for free? in which case a refund or some kind of creamware store credit may be in order.
Especially for ones who did not actually make any money and just provided free devices anyways.

I think it will be great to have more people creating stuff. no matter what way this turns out i am sure it will be a great refresh for new devices and interest in the platform. "

Ouch, seen in that light, the whole 4.0 re-registration show seems even more misplaced

Well the devices created with the free SDK can be handled as free devices to share. CW knows who exactly has bought the SDK and check around that no free SDK developed devices will be sold. Also for better and deeper programming the Analog Devices Stuff is still needed (the Sharc programmer and VisualDSP) so the free devices are more or less good to differ from the Paid SDK devices. The NDA has very strict rules.

If a user who paid for the SDK releases a device from a freeSDK user it's his own fault imho. The free release of the SDK won't degrade the fullSDK users but open a fresh new development of many devices, new ideas, new air ).
I think new ideas of synth's will also help the fullSDK owners to create new devices in reworking a new idea... correspondence and collaboration is surely needed but for me as potential freeSDK user a benefit of developed devices (in other words money) is out of question(never would do that. Also never did with Synthedit (modular VSTi Development) although i bought the license to do). I hope for the best in future, many devices and cool new ideas of synthesis

The re registration of SP4 had its sense. Also the automated system worked well on testing. Due excessive accesses from users the server makes errors but will be automatically reset hourly. So if it won't work try it somewhat later. Thats the reason why some users got the reg and some not or later than others... Its understandable that a server even a big one can't serve thousands of requests at the same time... there are more than 20000 regg'd users out there which try to get the SP4 just remind that

(ok, this is just booze talking, but i'll keep it here as a reminder to myself not to go writing BS posts while beeing a drunk sod)

excuse me for putting a little "please stop the bullshit" here.

Couple of points:
1. Free new sdk is for making free new devices

2. if RB cant handle all the mails and phones, FFS rent someone!!! in all honesty, of 1500 mails my bet is that 1200 is registry related! this doesnt take 3 minutes pr mail to solve (and yes i know that for a fact!) and doesnt require a degree in nuclear development. Me myself have been waiting 6 weeks for a simple 0.5 minute key transfer.

3. hope u having a good holiday, frank. Enjoy US, take yer time. Thanks for #4, we enjoy it, hope u do as well.

Best regards,
piddi

It's sad that the new DP needs 14 (was it?) DSPs to run... but it seems true that it needs all 14 for technical reasons, so it really gets me thinking. Maybe I should get a scope card. I have Pulsar II, and did I mension I recently got a second hand XTC? I don't have enough slots for another card tho.. sad.

Point 1: YEP

Point 2: As far as i understood its 1500 a day! And not only reg probs but also other questions in one mail not that easy to be answered in 3 minutes. You could try to call the german support. Probably he'll do your key transfer directly then.

Point 3: Well almost... Frank is not on vacation but in the US for Business things...

And for the SDK atm it seems that the SDK will only work with 14/15DSP cards... Perhaps there will be a chance for 3/6DSP Card owners to get one but no promise on that

So far so good...

Can someone clarify this for me:

1. Will there be a "full SDK" and a "freeSDK"

2. Will we need 15 DSP chips combined or on a single board like Scope.

I can clarify 50%

1. Yep...
-the freeSDK will be free and is limited to free devices. Also it is not available yet
-the fullSDK costs alot of money (about 7000 Euro or even more), is not limited (you can sell your stuff) and is available (not in the shop o'course )

2. Good question, next question...

Ralf, I think what you need right now is a massage...it helps to remove toxins out of your system and relaxes your tense muscles, especially if you've been drinking lots of coffee. It can really improve your productivity. Also do you have a store nearby that sells aromatherapy?

Take care,

Shayne
