I downloaded 30 MB free loops great from Art Gillespy this morning, the man behind Bitshift Audio/Phatmatic Pro.
They are Garage Band suited, but of course you also can use them 'standalone'.

Yeah, I downloaded those Bitshift loops and also the Access Virus loops for GarageBand.
You can still get the Access Virus loops from the Access site or search for it on http://www.macupdate.com
It's not a pro application by any stretch, but it makes it easy to throw together sub mixes and loops for use elsewhere.
There are some great built-in effects like the double filters etc, the only problem being is that resonant filters don't reset on stop or rewind, so you have to keep reloading your song to hear the true effect especially if you have long slow filters over many bars.
Midi programming is a bit dodgy too, although I found out I can use my Audio Units version of Absynth or any other AU instrument or effect for that matter.
Not too bad for $75.00 AUD - for the whole iLife package.

Really enjoyed this one, however it was put together 
Tasty piece of music from you again Brett - I was kinda wondering what you were up to. Last I heard you were still looking ata fence with panties on your head
Liked the vocals in terms of the voice. Lots of cool sounds. Only problme is that I'm going to have to change some of the notation and chords on the track I'm playing about with - we must've been thinking along the same lines.

Fences no longer hold a fascination for me as I find their conversation and logistical skills lacking - especially the treated pine ones!!!
Anyway, back to the music - yup, thrown together it was. I used mostly the Access Virus samples I downloaded and the vocal samples were from Computer Music magazine - "Urban Source" - the one with the XXX rated phrases
GarageBand was pretty easy to work with - no messing about with time stretching and beat matching - all done for you - but it's not good enough for final mastering.
I think I will enjoy putting together loops and filtering/mangling them for import into Cubase and STS 4000.
look forward to hearing what you've been up to Neil, are you using similar samples?

I couldn't make out everything in the vocals, so if I've complimented you on any "xxx" ones, let me know and I'll go and iron my tongue
Glad to hear the fence phase is over - lamp posts are quite intelligent if you're lonely.
I'm not up to too much, and no, I'm not using the same samples. Bit of a dry phase I'm afraid, so I took the opportunity to do a bit of research while putting something simple together and trying to improve the mixes if not the music
