RME Multiface
I'm considering installing this alongside my Pulsars so that I can use the 8 i/o via adat. Has anyone tried this?
I intend to run it alongside my 2 Pulsars in this box, but remain with the pulsar's as my ASIO driver so the only use (currently) for the hammerfall card would be to configure and route the i/o on the multiface from my external gear routed through the adat i/o to the pulsar2.
I'm gathering I won't suffer pci problems but I'm wondering how easily the multiface is routed to facilitate this...

I went for the hammerfall. Currently its installed in my main DAW and is wired to the Pulsar2 as well as my mixer. I've now got the option of using either the Pulsars or RME as my asio host and still have the use of both, but I suspect eventually the main DAW will have the rme while this PC will keep the CW cards (at least the current PCI generation).
a16 Ultra is also another option, and while I haven't ruled it out it just wasn't as flexible for where I'm headed. Still have the option to do that down the road if it suits me

I use the RME only for the adat currently, Pulsar remains my ASIO driver in Logic. I have some synths connected to the adat ins on the RME, routed into SFP via the adat A in on the Pulsar2, then I route my main outputs out adat A back into RME and out to my analog mixing board.
I could have simply bought an adat interface (or a16 ultra) but I expect to be using the Pulsars for a few years now and the RME will migrate while the Pulsars will stay in an older box. Also I am opting for the Scope ASIO as I get more flexibility this way, although I know RME would be a lower cpu load & latency.
Also I might add that its no longer necessary to have SFP running ALL the time eating 50-100Mb or ram just to provide Wav drivers (a godsend when I am working on Graphics).

That's an interesting way to deal with things, I've never heard of anyone doing anything like it. I assume you're just using Totalmix to route the analog i/o's?

I use TotalMix to route both the digital & analog i/o. In fact the flexibility of Totalmix was another reason I opted for the hammerfall+Multiface instead of a typical outboard unit.
One downside to the setup is that Pulsar remains master clock (without the ASIO driver loaded in logic there's nothing for the RME to get samplerate from).
Most of my outboard gear has multiple outs so one pair of outs is routed to the board and another into the RME>Pulsar for compression & effecting, recording and/or mixing. As I increase the amount of gear in my rack I should have to rely on it less for inserts and will convert the inputs over to sends and outputs to handle only digital tracks. Basically I wanted to overcome my lack of outboard processing and give myself a nice flexible path to expanding.

isn't there something like 'autosync' on the RME? haven't gone through the complete manual myself and it's been a while since i've been into the totalmix environment though... and have a completely different setup (mac+pulsars and pc laptop+RME, connected through adat. pulsars master, and when the mac is switched off, RME takes over automatically (internal, or looks for SPDIF))On 2004-01-31 07:04, valis wrote:

I thought that the Pulsar onboard DSP would eliminate CPU loads w/the exception of PCI bandwidth as it relates to Masterverb(s). Are you saying that in order to playback WAV files the Pulsar/Scope software requires 100 MB of RAM?
