Hey everyone. Bought a Creamware XTC a couple of days ago. Their XMAS bundle was just too good to give up on.
Anyway - it's not working properly. Say I start up a clean project in Nuendo2. Initialize a synth (eg. Bluesynth) and record something (midi). Everything will then play back just fine. If I then add eg. a Masterverb on that instrument or to the master outputs I'll hear the reverb just fine but once I press play or record in Nuendo it's as if the computer suddenly runs out of resources and semifreezes. The sound will drop in and out with a 'ring modulation' type of effect until I press the 'disable' button on that plugin and the computer 'recognizes' that I've turned off the effect. I'll turn it on again (without pressing play) and press the XTC logo to get a view on the resources and it's about 20-30%. It's definetly not due to lack of DSP resources on the XTC.
At first I thought it might be due to the fact that I also have a UAD-1 card in my computer but tonight I took that card out
and reinstalled XP completely. It didn't make any difference. Before I did that I also tried switching PCI slots to see if it would make any change. None what so ever.
Anyway. Here is a detailed description of my setup:
Motherboard: Asus A7N8x rev1.1 (latest bios)
CPU: AMD XP3000+
RAM: 1.5 GB TwinMos PC2700
GFX: GeForce4 TI4200 (8x agp, 128mb ram) connected via DVI-D to 2 Hitachi LCD monitors
Powersupply: Enermax Whisper 431W
IDE: 3 x Hard drives, 1 x dvd-burner
Soundcard: RME HDSP PCI + Multiface
USB: Maxtor external drive (for backup), Steinberg Midex8, Syncrosoft dongle
Software: Steinberg Nuendo 2.1.0.10
PCI overview:
AGP: GeForce4 TI4200
PCI1: Empty
PCI2: Creamware XTC
PCI3: UAD-1
PCI4: RME HDSP Pci (connected to a Multiface)
PcI5: Empty
*Everything* Apart from USB1.1/2.0 normal IDE are disabled on the motherboard (eg. serialport, firewire, S/ATA, floppydisk controller, etc)
Also all the latest drivers for everything (nForce2 platform drivers, nVidia detonator, soundcard, midex, etc) is installed.
Both the Rme HDSP PCI (multiface) and the Pulsar XTC card have their own irq's that aren't shared.
I figoured it might be a PCI bandwith issue but since the problem persisted after removing the UAD-1 that strikes me as rather odd. Not many
motherboards are able to compete with the A7n8x in that area. It's also pretty much become a standard for DAW usage on the AMD platform.
I really hope someone can help me overcome these issues as I really want to use those Creamware synths.
Thanks a million in advance and don't hesitate to ask me any questions if I left something out.
Kindest Regards,
CM
